Pgr is a failed franchise in the modern era. I guess it's fitting. ;)

PGR was great before we had 600hz physics simulations.

Driveclub has the same nuances that PGR had where the car handling took a lot of repeat practicing to get the hang of and never followed expected real world physics.

I think it's largely why the series failed over time.

It failed? I thought it just ended when Activision bought Bizarre.

PGR hit just the right spot between arcadey and simmy for me, if that's what Driveclub is like I might actually check it out. I thought it was another Forza/Gran Turismo.

Driveclub definitely isn't Gran Forza, it's way more arcadey than that. I guess arcade racers are shit when they're exclusive to Playstation...

Forza gave me a level of satisfaction that I never got from arcade racers.

Might be because Forza is a sim and isn't trying to do what arcade racers do.

I'll take OutRun 2 over Gran Turismo any day, but it doesn't mean OutRun 2 is the better simulation.

Anyway, back on topic. PGR...always shit.

The fuck?!? PGR4 is, easily, the best racing game I've ever played. DriveClub really comes close to matching the fun of an arcadey racing game like PGR4.

Outrun/daytona/Ridge Racer are outright arcade racers, simcade racers float on this fine line of trying to be sim but they're not, which imo can be more confusing, should I powerslide or brake and take the correct line. The answer isn't so obvious in these simcade games and it requires trial and error to find the answer.

I found in drive club it took me some trial and error to find ways to take corners faster, some worked better braking going through the apex, some worked better drifting, quick drifts work better than easing off the gas in slight turns which is odd from a traction point of view.

That's one thing I like about the horizon series, the physics model still represents mainline forza in that you drive properly and you get rewarded with good lap times.

PGR was a great franchise and was where MNR started. Don't forget your roots. :P

We don't forget which is why we play horizon which is made by ex bizarre creations staff and keeps them employed. Private lobbies FTW!

I don't understand, the game was still made by ex bizarre staff even if half of them got laid off after the game was complete.

And where are those guys going to go now? They'll end up at playground working on an existing successful franchise which releases at a regular cadence with private lobbies. Broke ass Sony doesn't know how to look after these guys.

Finally fired this up last night. No idea what all of the initialisms on the controls screen mean. Made sure it was set to automatic transmission (lol gears), found the handbrake button, and away I went. If this is arcadey, I've been wise to avoid GT/Forza for as long as I have. Approximately 1.9 million players got a faster time than me on my first race. It feels like I've been dropped straight in about 3/4 of the way into the campaign in a PGR, which is about where the cars start feeling really heavy and unwieldy, and the game stops being fun for me.

I'll probably play it occasionally, I seriously doubt I'll improve though since the PS+ version seems to throw random cars and tracks at you. Nice presentation, and the price was right. I've seen the original release around for $15, does that have much more content than the PS+ version or is most of it tied to the season pass?

Booted this up tonite for the first time since the April DLC packs dropped and the changes are a massive improvement. Loving the level up system. Instead of just grinding like every other racer you actually have to beat certain objectives as well and the one I'm on atm to progress to Level 61 is on par with the Venom Hot Lap in terms of lap time difficulty. Hope more racers incorporate this instead of just someone having more time on their hands having being a higher level.
