Spam because it's fun - New enemy type Tim is working on is super rad/fun to deal with
By the way if you have a beloved gaming site that you think might wanna check out Cactus feel free to message them I've had a bunch of suggestions (very good ones too) from people like Shaneus and actually sent out a shitload of free steam keys + links to all our sites in the hopes they might check the game out, but most of the 'big' websites & podcasts that people suggest never responded to me, not even to say not interested.
Edit - What if the container was holding... BOMBS?

Did you hear back from Idle Thumbs at all? I remember Sean was super enthusiastic, but didn't see anything else happen from there
Might be worth trying Classic Game Room again? Maybe Gerstmann/GB as well?
BTW Pretty sure Starch is my favourite character now. Both with the weapons and because she herself is far more adorable than any of the others, damnit.

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
Never heard back I sent there contact email a bunch of details + tons of copies of the game (for everyone on the show) then we got that tweet and nada, you should tweet them again
GB have never responded to me or my brother, messaged them a few times after key developments but it just seems forever stuck in their filter, CGR likewise never responded but it may be worth contacting them again (or again, players can request them to cover the game on their site using the drop down).
It's actually so god damn depressing some times when you send out these emails and never hear back, do they hate the game? Did they see the game? do they think it's a mobile game?

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
Are you now embroiled in an internet drama?
I hope none of that overshadows what you are doing.
Edit - looks like you'll get some good publicity out of it.

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
It seems like honestly answering questions without a PR filter is enough to get you involved in internet drama these days, which I'm fine with. At least here the drama is being accurately depicted by the site and not an out of context quote from a much larger article/interview.
I genuinely hope Microsoft change their policies, as I've said a few times here on the ranch and in other places we've had a less than stellar series of interactions with Microsoft over the last year but the ID program is pretty good, but not good enough to warrant such a poor clause.

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
Can't you just release a version called Assault Android Ficus and be done with it?
I don't understand what is going on but the solution should be as dumb as the problem I think.

Let's hope they get on board and buy it. Rather than blowing smoke up his arse and using him as a vehicle to attack MS.mech wrote:So great how excited everyone on Neogaf is over your game. Well done SJ

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
Attacking them can result in change though. They need more supporters for their Bone system so now is the time to attack while they are more likely to listen out of desperation to get people interested in buying bone. It's like when capcom promised never to put DRM on savegame slots when they released RE mercenaries on 3DS due to how many people were pissed that it was a measure to control second hand sales.
Now we enjoy DRM free savegames as long as they can honor the promise and look at the history of what happened when they last tried to screw over the people. If you keep up the pressure they will have to respond and please their paying customers who see this as a big deal.
Sony and MS are giants who don't give a shit about you unless you speak with your money. Some businesses just by nature don't act like arseholes because it's not worth the time to have to deal with the angry mob in the first place. MS and Sony are not one of these. Speak their language (threaten to not support them unless they honor promises and play nice) and they will cave. Whining has a purpose. If you want to buy it on the bone, you need to speak up and tell them this so they will know how much it affects them.
You finally got your wish to not have the always online and always on shit, (which just helps satanic pedos who work for government organisations to be able to look at your kids nude through game console camera) now it is time to complain about something new. If you are paying for something you are their bosses. They may not like to act like your bitches but you pay for the shit so that makes you their pimp. If they sense you are weak and just buy low quality services/products without even caring about how good or crap it is, they will laugh at how easy it is to screw you. Show some spine and you get better things.
It used to be that these companies just listen and then DO, instead of making excuses (for why they can't do something) because they actually cared about being the best of the best. Now they are looking for ways to lessen the quality of the things they produce just to save a bit of money or find shortcuts to getting something done quickly. (RROD ffs) This reminds me of when nintendo srewed over square during the n64 days because at the time they didn't think that was really an important game genre, and then they ended up making all their little esoteric jrpg games on sony systems which allowed them to produce stuff like FF7 which helped make the RPG genre a bit more mainstream and popular amongst non-rpg gamers thanks to having cheap cd to put CG FMV to tell epic stories. They can't afford to act like dicks if they want respect. Learn from history. MS should be nice to everyone not restrictive.

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
Every thread about anything AAC turns into a .gif extravaganza, ergo more publicity. I'm stunned there are people who go into those threads who haven't heard of it. I'd love to know if there are spikes (even small ones) on Early Access when one of these articles pops up.Twit wrote:Are you now embroiled in an internet drama?

Holy shit, top comment from that initial article:
Knowing Vlambeer is backing you (and that they're fans!) has gotta be a boost for you guys I'm not sure what they're like with cross-promotion, but something AAC-related in a future Vlambeer game could be awesome as shit.vlambeer

We did actually want to launch on all platforms as well, and that's exactly why we opted for a single month of exclusivity. The exception allows us to launch on everything, instead of having to forego the Xbox One. Needless to say, as things stand now we can only do this once - the next time, we'll be similarly penalised.
In other words, we're actively talking to Microsoft to try and get them to drop the rule so that every indie developer can launch their games in the order they prefer - and Rami at Vlambeer is a big fan of Cactus, so we'll push even harder now.

Re: Assault Android Cactus Steam Early Access & Demo release
Not too many spikes from this kind of publicity unfortunately, a lot of it is just mind share though which I think will help when we do our full release on PC & Consoles, well I hope anyway
Vlambeer are totally rad, Rami was actually a judge in the Intel competition we won that meant we could bypass Greenlight, and I met him at Eurogamer Expo too where he was super popular among the indie crowd. Love those guys, especially Rami, what he does for the indie scene is fantastic, I've never approached them about cross-promotion stuff but hey if they ever wanted to do it I'd be there in a hear beat.
