The speeds have been crap for as long as I've been on Live. I don't know if there's ever been a good explanation for it.

Yeah, it's quite slow... nowhere near as fast as using the pc. Demos take a few hours or more to dload compared to 15mins on the pc.

I get around half a MB a second when downloading normally but XBL always takes ages. I have complained here before with others but that achieves nothing - the fact is that MS is getting away with slow speeds and there is nothing we can do about it.

The May dashboard update is supposed to speed up downloads.

I reckon its partially to do with the location of the server. Perhaps the AU/NZ ppl get all their stuff from the same server that could be possibly hosted in the US. Im not 100% but I know that every single d/l Ive gotten off live, with some as big as 1.3gb, have never taken longer than 3.5hrs. Infact I think I got the Shivering Isles expansion in around 1.5hrs from memory.

I remember downloading Worms the same time as one of my mates in NZ. By the time I had downloaded it and played a few online matches, he was at about 20-25% complete. THats pretty bloody shocking.
