Any reported problem with the official component cable?
Been fooling around with setting up the component switch box and upgrading cables etc this whole day. While doing so this arvo I noticed the presence of ghosting in the xbox360 menu despite the fact that the cables are directly connected from the console to the TV. Has that ever been reported before?

I've had ghosting with non official vga cables, official vga cable is rock solid. The official component cable is rock solid for me. Although I prefer VGA, if you can tweak brightness settings on your panel its way better than component, crystal clear for me.
Also for those who get washed out picture on vga, the next dash update will allow you to select 0IRE a colour mode which is standard pc colour range. Picture should be much better in the next dash.

Can't imagine anything better than what I'm already seeing through the official VGA cable but I'm not complaining.

That's odd, could be an issue with your 360? Component on my telly looks gorgeous, but then it's a top of the line HD CRT, so the quality on the component inputs is top notch. I can understand on most flat panels, that they would be more interested in bettering the image from the digital inputs (DVI & HDMI), though I guess they also were interested in good quality through VGA for those who want to easily connect their PCs to their sets.
There's no reason why DVI/HDMI should look any better than component for 480i/480p/576i/576p/720i/720p/1080i, the same is true for VGA.
Here's an interesting read: DVI vs. HDMI vs Component, though it doesn't cover VGA.

Before you do that, as Lestat suggested try it on another TV first. If there was a problem with the console chances are it would affect all outputs. It may also be that the ghosting from the DVD player isn't as evident because of the lower resolution, and the content itself.Beer Belly wrote:Might be worth getting the techies to check out the console I suppose. Sigh....
Component shouldn't be any worse than VGA, or HDMI or DVI in a perfect world. Though you have to take into account the quality of the image that the system puts out over that input, and the quality of the component inputs themselves on the display. Like I said it would be highly likely that the component inputs on most flat panel displays would display a picture lower in quality than when connected through VGA or DVI/HDMI. This is the quality of the set itself, and not of component as a standard. You're happy with the quality over VGA so enjoy that (after testing on a different set over component, to ensure nothing is faulty).
