Cardsy has it now. Ask him.

Meanwhile, I'm at 55% :( Going to bed now, basing it on the Christmas theory, whereby if you go to bed early, tomorrow comes quicker and thusly, anything tomorrow brings (namely, Sega Rally demo).

Raced both tracks a couple of times. Looks okay, bouncing off track edges is back. Music is fucking hilarious ... GAME OVER YEAH is back as well.

Not hugely impressed to be honest, sort of feels like it should be a carve-budget title. I realise it's a completely different kind of game, but I enjoyed Dirt more.

Online multi would have to be pretty awesome to get me interested, but it doesn't appear to hold a candle to RSC2 unfortunately. :(

Is it an arcadey rally racer true to the feel of Saturn Sega Rally?

I don't like the feel at all and I'm a massive Sega Rally fan. It's way too touchy and gay. The whole feeling of the game is rather crappy actually. The rear view mirror is horrible. The only good thing about it is the track deformation, which is definitely better than Mud Racers. But you get the feeling it's overused.

I'm avoiding. But I was always going to avoid. I can't even see it being fun online.

The handling is almost identical to the original, or at least infinitely closer than Sega Rally 2. In other words, floaty as fuck to the degree that keeping it in a straight line is a challenge for the first lap.

Also looking good are the setup options - ie there aren't any besides choosing a dirt or tarmac setup (although I'm sure the final game might have a few more like snow, etc).

The deformable track has a pretty noticeable effect on handling as the laps progress with the car being a lot more skitterish as you cut in and out of the racing line. Unfortunately there are no water hazards in the demo so we can't check out any cool water/mud effects.

I know that these days the depth of a racer is determined by how many cars and tracks it has multiplied by how many degrees you can adjust the angle of the rear view mirror, but it's good to see Sega getting back to just doing a simple arcade game.

Hopefully the multiplayer code is up to scratch.

Invisible walls are shit.

I was considering buying this game when it's out. I think I'll be giving it a miss though, at least until next year or something when I can pick it up cheap.

Invisible walls you say?

There ends my playtest of this demo and I find it severely lacking.

There are mud effects in the tropical track.

Sega Rally is easy as to keep in a straight line, Sega Rally Revo is not.

They're not invisible. Just like the original, there's fences or embankments running round the perimeter of the track.

I'd call not being able to drive over a small piece of wood or a mound of dirt on the side of the track an invisible wall. Sure the wood or whatever is visible, but whatever is apparently above it that the car can't drive through sure ain't. But I'm just splitting hairs.

It's enjoyable enough, and it doesn't rape the memory of the original. I'm not sure if that's a win or a lose by Sega's standards...

It might be worth an EB rental, methinks

What is the deal with those barriers? I was running a slight bit wide and whack! dead stop. The tracks certainly do transform over the three laps but in the end the controller is vibrating far too much that it actually gets in the way of the game.

Other than that, I actually feel a bit sick after playing - a motion sickness if you will. I doubt I will be getting the full game unless it is ~$50.

Did you ever play Sega Rally with the NiGHTS pad set to Analogue? It was sloppy as fuck, but way better than the digital pad. This is pretty close to that sort of handling.

It's just too different to the games we're used to driving around in, I think.. there's still a lot of depth there, I just hope they include the original tracks.

Just gave it a quick spin and... well... I dunno. The analogue feels REALLY sloppy to me, but that might just be a conditioning thing. However, I was playing RSC2 last night and that felt a LOT better.

Will give this demo a few more goes, but it's definitely gone from "must buy" to "mmmmaybe" :(

Update: Just drove the tropical track, but with the tarmac setup rather than the dirt one. Handles SO much better (yes, even over gravel!). Same with the desert one (but to a lesser extent). I think I may now buy it on launch, but Playsia-style.
