Y'know, things break. Don't know anything about Steam, but I read that PSN IS subject to these types of problems.

I've never been on a flawless online gaming system before. Every online game I've been involved in has had its problems. Look at World of Warcraft for crying out loud. It is a huge success, but damn, they had massive problems in late 2004 through to mid 2005, and still have problems.

You're a techy of some type, or you run in techy circles. These types of setups are fricken hard to run.
mech wrote:Up to $300 with XBL now. $300!! For peer-to-peer matchmaking! That's down frequently!
Well, you wouldn't find me paying for something I was dissatisfied with. And it isn't frequently down. Like I say, I've been on XBL since 2003/4, whenever it launched, and I've hardly ever seen it down.
You've just struck on a bad week this week, which is apparently a result of massive demand......

yeah the time it was down was annoying, but it isn't like it is a representation of how live always is.

No service has 100% uptime, if you think that it does then you are an idiot.

I think the major problem was that it was flakey during a holiday break for a lot of people. During these times you are generally going to be more annoyed that it is down.

I really only noticed major downtime for one day. So although it was annoying, I wasn't ready to cut the wrists and sit in the bath.

Eve Online has daily downtime at 9pm-10pm Brisbane time ffs.....
I think that point alone has sealed its fate for me beyond the free trial. Unbelievably deep game though.

Steam is often not happy when there is a new game being released.

It's not Microsoft's fault they couldn't predict increased demand over the Christmas break. I don't think that even Nostrodamus could have
Currently playing: Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (PC), Far Cry 4 (PC), FIFA 23 (Series X)

Dear Xbox LIVE Members:

During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.

At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!

Sincerely,

Marc Whitten

General Manager, Xbox LIVE

Make it Rez for when it's released, thanks.

Or failing that, SSF2THD.

The free game works for everyone. Mech gets compensation for a day or two of shitty LIVE and we get compensated for having to hear mech complain for three days about one or two days of shitty LIVE. What an awesome start to the year. I see nothing but clear skies ahead for gamers. At least I won't feel guilty claiming my free game.

Anyone else having trouble signing into messenger on Xbox Live? I keep getting some bullshit about my password no longer being valid. I fucking know it, I've used the same account on my PC a dozen times before and after trying and failing on Live. I was able to use it on Xbox Live yesterday and this morning, so it's obviously setup just fine.

Do you reckon they'll just give everyone 800 or 400 points? I'd probably just rather the points, then I can get Tomb Raider Anniversary Episodes 3 and 4.
