* Crashes like a motherfucker a lot of the time
* New water is pretty
* DX11 mode is still in progress
* OS X port is buggy as sin with the full screen glow effect turned on
* New Blackrock Mountain dungeon is a bitch of a thing, haven't been able to find a group yet for the underwater dungeon
* Quest rewards in Hyjal are starting with 274 greens
* Reitemization has been cocked up so far, druids got into the expansion completely unable to tank, none of the previous tier pieces have mastery
* LFD is pretty broken, no doors yet on the new dungeon which is fuckin HILARIOUS.
* SW Harbour has been completely fucking demolished by Deathwing
* I hate coming back to live and being unable to mount my Frostbrood Vanquisher in old world

I spent all last night patching my beta client and I'll hopefully have a new gander soon.

Is there anything in particular that anyone wants me to check out?

Just doing the updates now and I think this might be the definitive end of my WoW days. I'm getting error messages. It's telling me I might want to uninstall and then reinstall the game. Well I don't want to do that at all so I don't know what kind of body language I'm sending out but it's obviously misleading.

By the sounds of it they have a fair bit to finish by November, what do you think the chances are of it coming by then?

Cause Ruby is the only Raid till then apparently, not much else to do for 4 months except level yet another 80...

Oh and I got my kingslayer on my mage on Saturday, 25man, 7/12 HM's I think. About 5.9k gs finally. Lich King fight is lame imo... for such a big fuckin build up.

I managed to land one of the random beta invites a couple weeks back. I had a bit of a look around Kalimdor on my main, then got stuck into rolling a Goblin. Starter questlines for Goblins are genius stuff.

Unfortunately, the new Launcher has cocked up and I haven't been able to get in since they released it last week.

From what I've read in-game, in patch notes and on the forum, I get the feeling that a lot of what they're doing with game mechanics is still fluid. Admittedly, this is my first ever beta, but they certainly don't appear to be in any rush to get this out the door.

Yeah we did, we were doing HM's. Part of one of the best guilds on blackrock, group called Audacity, old friends from an old guild. They've been carrying me lately but my gear is finally good enough to do well.

Edit: FYI I've been playing my mage again for 6 weeks after I was afk for 9 months :P

World Of Warcraft - ave atque vale

Post by emptyvessel »

Yeah, got it last night. Firstly it was Cata not switching on correctly, then it was xp gains not working correctly. Then the boat to vashjir didn't show up at all and the entire continent lagged out. Then I rather foolishly logged off to get food.

About an hour later I finally got through the 1500 person queue on jubeithos and got about half a level in. Vashjir starting zone is seriously poorly designed, it didnt handle a million people trying to click and loot one item well at all.

Throne of tides seems pretty cool though (and looks fantastic).

I was chatting to a security guard at one of the launches last night who didn't know anything about WoW and was bemused by the idea of paying an ongoing fee to play a videogame. The launch itself was pretty dead due to the street date breaking, so when a man came in to pick up Cataclysm and a time card, the guard made small talk with him, seemingly fascinated by his obsession with the game. Fast forward to five minutes after the store has closed, and the guard is standing outside with the same man, tapping on the window. Turns out his time card wasn't working. Upon being informed that he'd have to come back in the morning for a resolution, he burst into tears. Now I understand it can be frustrating to not be able to play a game you've been looking forward to for a long time, but fuck me dead. He was escorted out by the security guard who you could tell was doing everything he could to suppress laughter. I couldn't help but throw a "WoW is serious business" in there for good measure.

World Of Warcraft - ave atque vale

Gamma has complete ownership over amusing anecdotes about anything.

I just got my copy from JB after the street date was broken and had it installed and ready to go at 7pm (when Cata was supposed to go live).

When WotLK came out I went to a midnight launch at a local shopping center (it was only a few hundred meters from home in my defense). That was all well and good, but at 10 to 12 the security guard was stopping people entering the shopping center as it was closed, and refused to believe that anything was still open (even when tonnes of people started to come out with their copies). So you had tribes of pissed off wow addicts standing outside a shopping center at midnight abusing a very angry security guard. No tears though, so Gammas story still wins.

Just want to say how much I'm enjoying this expansion. The storyline progression through Vashj'ir has been awesome, I think they've really nailed storytelling through the phased zones, and the quests all seem to be moving forward through the zones, no major back-tracking as yet.

Have rolled a new Tauren Pally just to check out the changes to the starting zones, as well as the obligatory Goblin.

I picked it up a few days late, so the crushing numbers had already moved on, and I take my time levelling anyway since my guild is pretty much non-existent due to queues on Frostmourne now.

I like to think the hour+ queue is a reminder that there's housework that needs doing. Or dinner I should probably cook first.

Yeah without doubt, the flow in cata is the best thing about it. Not to mention the variation in questing. I honestly think any other mmo out there has fuck all chance of catching up to wow now, they've got too much experience and they've just nailed the expansion.

Glad I came back in WOTLK just before the exp and made a few more 80's, this game has years of good times ahead, and now that they've raised the bar big time again, nothing else will most probably come close ever as they lead the way... oh except titan of course.

I bought Cataclysm and started levelling casually again. It's still fun. I'm back on my level 66 Paladin. I look forward to taking him to 85. It's just relaxing. Do a a few quests, grab some XP and log off. I've never been hardcore and play it more as a single player game.

Will probably take my 80 Death Knight to 85 afterwards. Should be right to go with him in Feb when you're back in the saddle Cletus!!
