Loud/buzzing disc?

Post by asmodeus »

I got my 360 fixed recently after having it sit around dead for around a year.. so I'm catching up on the games I missed out on.

I just got Halo 3, but the disc makes a loud buzzing type of noise when playing.. all the other games I've got seem fine - the usual fan noise from the 360, but nothing like this. Anyone else experienced this with any games? Is it going to damage the disc or console? If it is, is there anything I can do about it?

Yeah I get that with our Halo 3 disc as well, every other disc is whisper quiet.

I had this with Scene It... console and disc were fine afterwards. It is worrying though, no idea how to stop it.

Yep, Halo 3 only for me too. I can't actually remember it getting up to that sort of noise level in-game though, just when I first put in the disc and maybe when it loads a level into cache.

PGR4 does it for me - loud as fuck.
Does it make any difference to the noise if your 360 is vertical or horizontal? Mine's vertical ATM due to space issues

Microsoft needs to outsource their next console to Nintendo or Sony.

I've only played it with the 360 horizontal, but I'll try it out vertical when I get home and see if it makes a difference.

Same for me on every game I own. Loud buzzing ontop of the jet engine whir from normal 360 drives.

Tried it with the 360 vertical - it reduced the noise a fair bit, but it's still slightly noticeable.

Ejecting the disc is a good start.

I have my console on a tilt to the left. It's vertical, and I just have one PS2 control pad wire running under one side of it. It cuts the disc noise of Halo 3 quite significantly for me.
