IGN gave Red Baron Arcade a 2:
Perhaps it's fitting that the first thing you'll see upon firing up Red Baron Arcade is a plane shooting holes in the Sierra logo. It probably would have been more appropriate for it to take a leak on the mountain, having the run-down trickle onto the Dynamix logo, but the message is the same: "F you, one of the greatest franchises in PC history, we're going to ruin all the good you did and wreck the nostalgia people still have for you in one fell swoop." That the game was done -- and so poorly -- by the folks at Stainless Games, the same people behind the Carmageddon series, means it besmirches yet another name in the process.

Sauce
Pity, because ye olde Red Baron on PC was awesome. I remember playing it heaps back when I worked for a company that allowed us to play games during our lunch breaks. I played it to the point where I became an ace and could create my own custom paint schemes 'n stuff.

One of my fondest memories of this game was watching a friend play - he came up with a cunning plan to swoop down on an enemy formation from out of the sun. Unfortunately his swoop was a little too magnificent - he gained too much speed and the wings broke off, so he was basically a passenger as his plane dropped comically right through the middle of the enemy formation to its demise.

Perhaps it would be a good thing if we don't get this locally. I'd rather have that Astro Tripper thing, which IGN gave an 8.

Yeah it's ratshit.

The weird thing is, the framerate is terrrrrrrrrrible, despite the graphics looking like they were ported from a PC game from 2000.

I wanted this to be good :( I want an awesome dog fighting game that doesn't have vehicles moving at a super fast speed.

Does Warhawk still have a good community?

I played some Warhawk last night actually. Hadn't played it for ages and got a sudden itch to give it another go. No dramas finding a choice of games running, jumping in and playing. Was still fun too.

Warhawk is an awesome game.... so much variety...

nothing better than loading up a jeep covered in mines and leaving it near a zone point and then watching as 3 or 4 enemies converge on it's location....

There's been another firmware update, so you might want to grab it now lest it become an inconvenience. Apparently just a general improve basic stuff sorta thing. I heard that stuff like looking at trophies and profiles was now much quicker. I just tried it and yeah, better I suppose.

Let me guess, another 130MB that takes around 40 minutes on a 6Mbit connection to improve things that nobody cares about anyway?

I am so tired of turning the PS3 on (for games) once a month only to have to wait for this to update, then be prompted for a game to update with another 30-40MB.

One thing I guess is that useless trophy thing might be quicker although I just wish they would copy Microsoft and include a "blade" when pressing the PS button rather than a slow loading copy of the crossbar.

Yeah, I can sympathise with those who don't use their PS3s regularly - hence the "grab it now lest it become an inconvenience" comment (the inconvenience being having to do it when you want to play a game). This one was fairly quick for me though.

...

In update news stuff - in the US they are giving away Rag Doll Kung Fu, so if you have a US account then you may as well grab it. There's also a new Home apartment you can grab for free (for a limited time, then it's no longer available).

40 minutes, wtf? Mine was done in 10 mins last night - when I was done playing the PS3 I set it up to download and told it to shut down when it was finished. Easy.

Ooooh, Rag Doll Kung Fu, will have to remember to get that.

I have no idea what is going on then. Again, with this update, I started around 3:15am and it is now 3:45 and it is only at 45% in the downloading stage. Everything else is fine - I guess I will go back to the USB method as that was much quicker... although still too long for what it does.

Edit: 3:55am on the dot and it has finally rebooted. That is exactly 40 minutes as expected.

Another thing - thanks for the heads up on that free game, I am downloading it at the moment (full speed ~550Kb/s).

I have found sometimes updates go incredibly slowly - but if I quit and restart they work fine. Maybe try that?
