A Tokyo Game Show 2008 list of games leaks that The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match will be released as an Xbox LIVE Arcade game. The game was originally released in arcades and SNK's Neo Geo and later ported to the Dreamcast and Playstation. There's no date for the title, but SNK recently released KOF '98 Ulimate Match for the PS2 earlier this summer. The game even got a Japanese arcade re-release this year, running on Taito's TypeX hardware.

No word on pricing for the XBLA version or a release date.

IIRC (not being a massive fighter fan) this was the best of them all, yeah?

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111

IMO KOF XI is the best KOF ever, but up until then 98 or maybe 2002 were king. 98 was definitely the old SNK's best KOF I believe.

From Kotaku:
SNK's classic 2D arcade fighter Samurai Shodown 2 also makes an appearance this Wednesday. If you want to take a look at its loading screen, Microsoft has been kind enough to upload that to Flickr. At 400 Microsoft Points, it's a bargain — if online play works.

Have you played Tenka, lestat? IMO it's better, but this will definitely do.

...I also prefer 4...but this will still do. Instabuy.

Tenka? Doesn't ring a bell, got a link?

Never got into 3/4, they changed the control scheme too much and I felt the character roster got weaker.

It was at the same time SNK were trying to introduce 3d fighter like combos and controls starting with AOF3, but it never really took off. Probably why the KOF series is still kicking, thankfully they stuck with the traditional 2d street fighter style controls.

Tenka is Sam Sho 6, released in 2006, arcade and PS2.

The instant knock against it is that there is no blood. That aside, it is like CvS2 where you can pick a 'groove' and the game plays like that groove, IE SS1/2/3/4/5, so fans of any of the games are happy. A shitload of characters, controls that feel far more tight compared to SS5 and you have just about the complete package.

It has the best gameplay simply because it has all the gameplays. 2 has the nostalgic appeal, but for mine 6 is the best in the series.

SS2 is up now. I dunno... an SS Anthology is due out on the Wii and I think PS2 at the end of the year for $35...

That's I, II, III, IV, V, V Special and VI for a pretty damn good price.

mmmmm I downloaded the demo, decided it would be smart to look before blowing 800 spacebucks.....and I'm not so sure anymore. 400 points, absolutely, 800 points for a game I already own on Neo Geo and have emulated anyway? Plus there's the PS2 collection, plus it's not even the best in the series?

...plus.....it isn't ageing too well imo. Should have brought 4 to XBLA.

I think the 800 points may be better spent on Bionic Commando.....?

It's 800? Fuck... the Kotaku article I quoted said 400, but they've been known to be WAY off the mark at the best of times. Yeah, too steep at 800 imo (haven't seen for myself, capped atm)

I downloaded the demo, I'm not sure either, 800points is a bit rich. I might pass on it and like you mentioned put the 800 points towards bionic commando which I thought was excellent from the demo.

One thing I disliked were the scaling options, i.e. the total lack of them. They haven't done enough to warrant the 800 point price tag.
