Lads,
I'm back from Brizzy and my ADSL2 connection is in too!!!
The router says 7971kbps downstram and 964kpbs upstream. Did a speed test on the http://users.bigpond.net.au/speedtest/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; site and got 5.29Mbs download and 824Kbps upload so its not as fast as I thought it would be, but fuck it... it's free so I ain't complaining too much.
Hopefully no more lag... even with my sister-in-law streaming her shitty TV shows!

I'm used to Fifa now. I changed the controls to the alternative scheme so that the shooting and long passing mirrored PES. The ways in which goals are scored are different, I still find myself sometimes trying to do things that would be possible in PES in Fifa, when they just don't work the same (for instance lofted through balls, one-touch passes).
There's still a better feeling of control in PES, as though everything in Fifa happens a little after you do it, where-as in PES (speaking of previous version here) there was a more instantaneous relationship between your actions, and those of the players you are controlling. Goal scoring in PES for the most part is more rewarding.. I don't know if it's a result of the delay in the controls. Easiest way to describe it is that in PES it feels like you have just scored a goal, where-as in Fifa it feels like the player you are controlling has just scored a goal.
That said, the movement of the ball in Fifa is more realistic. The ball has more weight to it, and you can't simply zing it about like you could in the more recent Pro Evolutions. Long passes seem to float in the air for longer than necessary, as though every long pass is a lofted chip rather than a long pass (ie there doesn't seem to be much pace on them). As a result I rarely use long passes for anything other than crosses, or clearances.
The game modes are good, I'm enjoying the Manager Season, though some of the options could be a little more accessable. The transfer system is a little clunky, and isn't intuitive.
I'll still be giving PES a go when it comes out. Though I probably won't get it right on launch (get someone to pick it up for me for Xmas perhaps). The player drafts that me and my mates have had in PES since PES2 don't seem to be feasible in Fifa (the ways in which you access and view players detailed statistics/attributes is crap - and the whole 'overall' rating is suspect).
I've played a couple of games of 1 vs 1 in person and it was gpood fun, even though the guy I was playing against was a bit of a noob - I beat his Australia with Sydney FC.
