Can you open a 360 Controller?

Post by UniKoRn »

My 360 controller got alchohol spilt on it and now the buttons are sticking.

I want to open it and clean it. But I looked at the screws holding it together and they don't look very standard. Anyone know what will work on it?

Or is this going to be more trouble than its worth?

They're torx screws, a T9X20 torx screwdriver will take 'em out no worries. I had to do a similar thing for a PS3 controller a few months back, it is doable, just be careful with it and make note of how to put it back together :)

Haha, I did the same thing to one of mine once, damn beer :(

If you don't want to buy a new screwdriver the cheaper option is to get a normal flat head screwdriver, break the central spire thing in the middle of the screws off, and then you should be able to undo it like any other screw.
That's what I did to get my alcohol ridden wireless pad open. It sounds a little dodgy but it worked fine for me. :)

You're right, but there's always the lazy man way if you're so inclined. :)

Mmmm, I just used a normal screwdriver, well a small one. I am positive the pads I have are just Phillips screws as I have taken apart two pads now.

Yeah my left stick is pretty much unusable now, it is very sloppy and when left alone in a game it will move off to the last direction moved on its own. I can't even really use it now and jus give it to mates for co-op.

I borrowed my mates near new controller the other day and within a few weeks Ive worn off the little nubblets on the right and bottom part of the rubber.

i'm on my 3rd pad, when the little nipples on the sticks have been worn off and they feel greasy it's time to invest in a new pad... it's a nice feeling after you get over the butt raping cost
