Re: AFL Season 2014
Personally i believe it has been blown out of proportion massively. Comments from Prime ministers, feminists, violence groups etc....etc....really??
First off why did it take one week for this shit to become news? Slow news week?
I don't agree with what the blokes said, but it has nothing to do with sexism or creating violence against women. And I am no fan of Eddie everywhere, but the character assination against him has been pathetic.
Its amazing how many people have an opinion on this, but never even listened to it. Its amazing that it was Danny Frawler who said he hold her under and not eddie, yet there is only one person coping all the flack.
Caroline Wilson's double standards once again have shown through. She doesn't mind writting dirt on people in football and bullying them. She's playing the sexist/violence against women angle?? If she's so passionate about the issue, why didn't she right a big dirt sheet article on Dustin Martins altercation with a women earlier this year..ooohhh thats right she's a Richmond supporter.

A man should be seen and not Hird.
Re: AFL Season 2014
More than half way into the season and I still have no idea who will win it.
Still looking at Cats and Swans as the favourites... although both sides are a bit too heavily reliant on a handful of players. This leaves them a bit open to injuries or individual player's form. Cats especially have a soft draw from here... so will finish strongly in #1 or #2.
Hawks next? There is no doubt they aren't as good as last year... but Clarkson is still experimenting with kids in key positions / tasks and different game plans. He's certainly been prepared to risk losing matches for the greater good... and while we've scraped in a few lucky wins our percentage has suffered. But having said that, the only game that scared me was our capitulation vs the Giants. Fascinating how we are prepared to conceed the contested ball... but hammer the ball carrier AND the guy taking the quick release to try and get the turnover. Not sure we would want to take that into September.
Bulldogs and the Giants... both capable... but still too young / inexperienced to really push for top four / flag. I particularly expect the Giants to fade later in the year (young players tend to fatigue until they have at least four pre-seasons under their belt)... but man they are going to be scary over the next five years or so.
Kangaroos are about done? Really tough draw from here... and I can't see them holding onto their top four advantage.
Which just leaves us with the Crows. Phenomenal effort given the tough draw they've had to date. Could well sneak into the top four and give the flag a real shake!
And then there is the whole top four shake up. No side has made the GF from outside the top four in this current format (since 2000)... but now EVERYONE gets a week off before the finals. This will surely undermine the advantage of the week off in the Semi-finals. And for two sides in the Prelims they will have only played one game of footy in the previous three weeks... is that too much rest?

And in case anyone missed it... yesterday marked 1000 days of the Hawks as reigning premiers...

Interesting article summing up Hawthorn's experimental game style... http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/how-haw ... 3f8a60ac6b
Re: AFL Season 2014
Just after I proclaim Cats as certs for top spot... they get beaten by St Kilda.
They've now gone down to the Blues, Pies, and the Saints!
Funny to watch the Cat's players (mainly Selwood and Hawkins) sooking to the umps at the end of the game.
Hawks could be in top spot by tomorrow night

Re: AFL Season 2014
The Eagles are pissing me off so much this year. The 10 goal turnaround at home against Adelaide, from a 5 goal lead to a 5 goal loss, was the icing on the cake. WTF was that bullshit?
Yet we're only a game off second spot
Huge game against Norf this week. It's at home. Can we do it?

How was the 10 year anniversary, Ambrose. Did John Worsfold get some love?

I wasn't at the game but Eagles fans revere Woosha as a living legend of the club and the single most influential individual in the club's history. Which is why we named our Club Champion award after him as soon as he stepped down as coach.

Re: AFL Season 2014
I rarely watch The Footy Show but I caught a Worsfold interview at the start of this season. They opened with a highlights package of him as a player. Some amazing vision of him playing hard as nails. Reminded me why I hated him so much when he played. I was at a WC v Ess game once and Worsfold was getting stuck into a young James Hird. Really roughing him up on and off the ball. Must've been '93 actually because Tim Watson approached Worsfold to try and calm him down. It didn't work.

Re: AFL Season 2014
Sounds like Woosh
This season has been so weird. The Eagles are in god-awful form (how the hell we beat Melbourne I have no idea, when they slaughtered us in every stat except the one that counts ... They had a +30 inside 50 differential ffs, the worst differential the Eagles have EVER conceded at Subi) yet we've strung together 5 in a row and are equal second on the ladder?
They say good teams win even when playing poorly, but this is just taking the piss.

Re: AFL Season 2014
If Eagles can build from here can do well, watching them this year they seem.. bit half assed in most games like they are expecting it to happen. On the weekend it was the first time I think I've seen them this year in that situation at least knuckle down and fight for everything. If Nick Nat gets back soon then they'll keep building, continually winning will eventually build good solid form.
Vzzzbx, you lose again!
Re: AFL Season 2014
Flag race still wide open.
Probably only Kangaroos (bit rubbish) and the Bulldogs (decimated with injury) not realistic chances.
Hawks, Swans, and Cats in the box seat.
Crows looming... But like the Giants and Eagles they will need home finals to go deep into September. If either of the first two finish top two then look out.

Watched it on the massive screen at Crown Casino in Burswood. Huge crowd, atmosphere was incredible, that final siren (which no one actually heard cos we were all going apeshit) triggered scenes of absolute pandemonium I was high fiving so many randoms. My people
My hands were shaking for ages afterwards. So much adrenaline pumping through my veins. Fuck I love footy
If Nic Nat and Shuey fire up for the finals, anything can happen
Saw the new stadium as we went past on the train too. It's going to be incredible

The one thing that will stop the Eagles from winning the GF is the MCG.
When's the new Stadium meant to be ready??

Re: AFL Season 2014
You wouldn't pick the Eagles to beat Sydney or Hawthorn at the G. Maybe Geelong but even then I'd bet on Geelong.
Re: AFL Season 2014
Huge game vs the Eagles tonight.
Hard to read the Eagle's form. Obviously they have been very good at home (9 and 1)... but when you look they haven't really beaten anyone of consequence.
If the Eagles win... Hawks drop to 4th... and the Swans/Crows move into pole positions. This makes it very hard for anyone else to make the Grand Final (can't see either of those two teams losing a home prelim after a week's rest).
If the Hawks win then an MCG prelim is still on the table... and this keeps both Hawthorn and Geelong firmly in the mix.
Punters are off the Hawks (but I was very happy to get a bite of $2+ for the win and $4 for the 26 point line).

Re: AFL Season 2014
Thanks West Coast...
Obviously a few results to come... but now we are probably looking at Hawks v Cats in the 2nd QF.
Eagles definitely the form side heading into the finals.
History says you can't win it from outside the top 4... but the week off at the end of the season may just open the door for someone to defy the odds...

Two points away from the dream scenario, Norf at Subi
Ah well, BRING ON THE DOGGIES
Every year there's a team outside the top 4 that gets hyped up as a genuine chance. This year it's the Eagles. I don't think we're a chance (it's Sydney's to lose) but I hope we cause some carnage
Also, Thursday night finals are arse.
