Ah oh my fucking god the whiny tire kickers are out in force over at Whirlpool.
It's almost hilarious to watch them bitch about a mere $79 cap. Get a job you hippies or grab it on prepaid where you won't be forced to pay "ripoff" (i.e. less than DSL prices) for data.
FUUUUUUUCK!
If that's true I'll be interested to see Voda's plans. I am going to try and get out of my current contract (my k850i is a lemon) and get one.

It's been a pisser to watch Whirlpool the last few days. "Buh-buh-buh Steve said it will be $200!". These are the type of people that rack up massive phone bills and then blame the phone companies for letting them. And then get Daddy to pay for it anyway.
It's a fair plan for the phone, and the pricing is in line with what Optus is offering for similar handsets in the range.
Exactly. And if they didn't force you onto a data plan no doubt you'd generate a few hundred megs of usage at casual rates and end up bitching and moaning anyway.

Today I saw a claim (zdnet?) that resellers will carry it as well. I don't know if I can justify $79 for 1Gb of data (I rarely make calls), but if Virgin gets it and does a nifty, say, I dunno, 2Gb data and $30 of calls for $50 I'm all over it. I've got $100 in gift vouchers I can't think of any use for, so that's half the 8Gb model taken care of.
(edit: NO, because I just remembered I don't want fucking two-year contracts anymore)
itunes is a very good app. I don't use it because I use Linux and, well...
The rumour is that resellers can carry it, but they have to be a dealer for the carriers; so they can sign you up there and then. You will have to sign up for the phone to be active, apparently. Another rumor is that Voda will sell it outright... for $950
My first and most important rule is that I not be forced onto a two-year contract. If that's the only option, fuck it, I'll get something else, easy. No more two-year contracts ever.
a) I don't want to be tethered to any operator for two years, b) I don't want to be paying off any handset for two years and c) I might get some work abroad next year
EXCLUSIVE: Optus to sell iPhone for $350
Wednesday, 11 June 2008
We have received information from an Optus World employee [via e-mail] that the iPhone will be sold by Optus outright (without any contract) for $350. The tipster has not told us whether this is the 8GB or 16GB model, however, we believe it would not be a surprise if the 8GB sold for this price (looking at the current price differences between the iPod Touch in the US and over here).
Rape time boys, bend over and no lube, that's cheating.
Those prices are shit and $79 plan only option is terrible for someone who isn't a high volume user like myself. My monthly bill is around 15-20 bucks, it's better to buy a hacked phone outright i reckon.
I think that the carriers would be more than happy to take people on a lower plan if the cost for the handset is higher than $200US. So whether it is available on other plans depends on whether Apple allows it to be sold at a higher price or not. If not, blame Apple
At least with Optus' plans they're forcing a decent data cap. I shudder to think what would happen to some people if they didn't. That being said, 1GB is more than plenty.
My guess is that demand will make those plans the only ones available for a while. Once supply is OK we'll see outright phones available.
