Re: Official NRL 2012 Thread | Grand Final Day
Dogs halves are terrible, their kicking was woeful and were found out. Against a team with a good defensive structure their passing game and decoy runners doesn't work.

Look at that. If I'm the bloke winning the Dally M next year I'd hand it back. It's cursed.
BTW the last month has been Craig Bellamy's finest "hour". Amazing coaching job and they were fully prepared for everything today.

Glad I didn't care about this result.
Although Melbourne winning is slightly worse than having to put up Doggies supporters.

Everyone will say "oh he has Slater & Smith & Cronk" and that they were cheats.Candy Arse wrote:BTW the last month has been Craig Bellamy's finest "hour". Amazing coaching job and they were fully prepared for everything today.
But you look at the effort he gets out of guys no one else wanted like Norrie, Ryles or guys like Proctor and any of the outside backs. They're just prepared and coached better than anyone else.
Re: Official NRL 2012 Thread | Grand Final Day
Bottom line is the Storm defence was outstanding and their ball control was insane. I don't know what their completion rate was, but I'd guess it was over 85%.
The Bulldogs don't have a conventional team in that no-one there has a long kicking game. They have a couple of guys that have a decent short kick, but they're not designed to be kicking the ball from within their own half. All year they've made enough ground through their forwards and backlline that they haven't needed to kick long - they've almost always been in position to place precision attacking kicks which their halves can handle, if they choose to kick at all - their backline has been so effective that it acted as a proxy kicking game for them.
To the Storm's credit, they kept the Bulldogs on the back foot for the entirety of the game from the very beginning. Posession of the ball became so precious for the Dogs that they were reluctant to play their natural style of football which is for the forwards to play that short passing game and then spread the ball once they get ascendency with good yardage and quick play the balls.
No sour grapes here - the Storm are well coached and the Dogs were outplayed tonight. 'Disciplined' is the word I'd use to describe their performance.
/end drunken post.

Lame but unsurprising given that our best chances made themselves unavailable due to injury.
