Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
People who haven't read the books, start now. The TV series, as good as it is, is missing massive chunks of the narrative (obviously for practicality issues). Martin reckons two more books to go and then it's all over. The last he wrote was huge so I expect the TV series to extend beyond 7 seasons - if they stick to the one book = one season pattern the last few seasons will be ordinary.

I write this while wearing chainmail gloves so obviously I know what I'm talking bout. Everyone calm down. Nobody knows anything new or revealing.

Also I have no time to read the books, not sure if I want to anyway.

Except S3 is only the first half of Book 3, while Season 4 will be the second half.Rorschach wrote:People who haven't read the books, start now. Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Yeah the second half of book three will easily make a full season. After the Red Wedding, everything happens almost at once. And so many things happen that the Red Wedding seems like a minor event. The tv version of that scene is way more graphic than the book too. Some significant gruesome changes were made for dramatic purposes. Also, Theon's story hasn't come into the book after the fall of Winterfell too, so I wonder if that's just stuff they threw in to flesh out the season. So glad I decided to read the books.Scullibundo wrote:Except S3 is only the first half of Book 3, while Season 4 will be the second half.Rorschach wrote:People who haven't read the books, start now. Rapidly churning through the books in the hope that I'll get through them all before the next season. Already knocked off the first two.
Reading them has given me an appreciation of the excellent work the show writers have done adapting it. All the exclusions or shifts that I've noticed so far I can see were done for very good reasons.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
While I feel like I'm better than pretty much all of my friends at the moment because all of them watch and none have read GoT, I have to say it's fucking lonely. I has spoilers I have to sit on for the good part of a year. And then, finally when they do get the next season I'll still be miles ahead and unable to discuss what I know. I don't regret reading the books. I personally think they are far more enjoyable than TLotR and seemingly far grander scale. It's just difficult to hold back sometimes. I'm fucking busting.

I watch the season and then read the book that should season is based on. I understand they are taking bits from the other books... but it seems to be working so far.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Well the books have got me working on installing a murder hole over my front door. Very practical idea. I'm going to run a boiling water pipe instead of using boiling oil for defence to keep it mess free. Every home should have one.
Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
The books have made me nickname the wife's anus a murder hole because it's all cut up and bleeding once I'm done with it after watching Rob Stark bang his hot woman in the King of the North's tent.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
I just finished the 5th book. Now my watch begins as I stand vigil awaiting the winds of winter.
There's nothing I can say that isn't a huge spoiler. Much and more is so unexpected. Definitely one of the best series I've ever read. The best thing is knowing who everyone actually is. The show can't give you that clarity. And two and a half books ahead of the TV show leaves me with no better understanding of how John Snow takes the Iron Throne at the end.
Read the books. Download them, buy the print version, whatever it takes but read them.

Do they have pictures? I like to colour one in after I have read a chapter.

At the end of every book is the family histories and their sigil. I guess you can colour those in.

Average ep. But I guess it's the 'catch up on where we're at' ep.

I've read all the books so I know in advance how Scully will react to each episode.

Thought it was a good ep to start off with, great ending though.

Love that pork sausage gif, way better than anything in the Sopranos.

Nice one, GoT. Kill off the only character worth rooting for. ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Pretty sure I know what you two are upset over. Trust me, this death, while a huge blow, creates a whole new path for a lot of characters. I was also shocked but gradually I think you'll find it was necessary.
