Re: The Orange Man. He's bad. Very, very bad!
Well I don't think you have autism (you might?) or else I'm trying to think of any other reason you don't get a joke besides choosing not to so you can be outragggeeeedddd. You know, it's up there with still believing Charlottesville and praising white supremacy lie. You know the truth but hey you like your alternative universe where this guys simply so evil. Probably the same cognitivie dissonnance you employ to ignore the riots at his inauguration, the democrats refusing to accept his election as valid and you know, that whole Russia thing inciting people for years, Hilary never accepting the results, the storming of the capital during Kavanaugh, trashing of the DOJ building, mass rioting in cities, incitement to target the white house and all the talk of hiding in his bunker from the mob and egging them on all with Orwellian speech on them being peaceful protests as literally Minneapolis was levelled.Ambrose Burnside wrote:Trump said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose votes. He was right. Froggy would be all like "Sorry murder? Ridiculous, get a grip. Manslaughter yes murder lol."
What exactly has he done that's so terrible that it's like 1933 in your mind?
Did he arrest journalists? Did he use agencies like the IRS to target political enemies? Did he use federal powers to step over states? No, in fact probably one of the best things he did was actually use the federal system correctly instead of the knee jerk reaction that they do there (and here now) which is straight away create a federal body and try and manage everything there. Did he imprison people for political crimes? Did he try and start any wars?
No to all. I know he tried to enforce the borders of his own country, which has nothing to do with anyone here. I know the horror right!
Just on the above he's already well ahead of the last few administrations, yet he's adolf mark 2. Is it because they both like dogs?
I can only imagine the fits you'd be having if he had a wing of his party that ran around all major cities clad in black beating/murdering and destroying people and businesses that disagree politically with them. I mean, imagine if a president came to party with that kind of ground game going on acting with impunity and at the same time used their allies who control all the tech & media to purge any dissenting voices. Then, organising with State and Fed DA's to target anyone who associated with him or his family for punishment for political wrong think. To be clear, the goals not to jail them, it's to drag them through the courts over years to bankrupt and ruin them. It's the epitome of freedom that is, you'd have to be excited to be an American today, I mean as long as you think the right way of course.
This is going to end like the riots, once you go down this path and be OK with this eventually it's going to happen the other way. You can't be OK with any political persecution, it's too dangerous a road to go down but there they go over there, sprinting down the first 100m with you guys so drenched in your hate lapping it up.

He was joking, he didn't mean it, don't take him literally, wait that one you should take literally, no not that one that one was a joke, you misinterpreted him.
His supporters take him literally. That's the point. That's what makes the bullshit he spouts so dangerous.
Four years of lies (which you still believe). Months of stop the steal, march on the Capitol, lets get Mike Pence to cancel electoral college votes cos he can totally do that don't you know, I won a landslide, you all know it, fight for me, trial by combat!
What the fuck did you think was going to happen?
No, don't answer that, you'll dribble more bullshit about how hard done by Trump was something something voter fraud Pennsylvania will flip ANY DAY NOW!!!

Been seeing a few Congressman being accosted by Trump's model citizens at airports - Romney, Graham and here it's Democrat Lou Correa who I'd never heard of. Correa will be much better known after this good showing.

Yes, because well-rounded humans sometimes joke and they are sometimes serious. Context is important.Ambrose Burnside wrote:He was joking, he didn't mean it, don't take him literally, wait that one you should take literally, no not that one that one was a joke, you misinterpreted him.
A lot of what Froggy said is bang on, and so are you. I just don't understand how people don't see that both sides are exactly the same. The absolute saddest thing about the Capitol incident, for me, is that no one is stopping to think how we got here. People who have always despised Trump will say "I told you so! What did you expect would happen you dumbshit!" without a hint of retrospect of the last four years. American politics is toxic and polarised, and a refusal to acknowledge that bad things have happened from both sides means we're going to be continuing down this path for a long time. It's already started with impeachment articles for Trump today. On we go, continuing the divide.Ambrose Burnside wrote:His supporters take him literally. That's the point. Actually, the most accurate and eloquent way I've heard it put is:His supporters take him literally. That's the point. That's what makes the bullshit he spouts so dangerous.
(How did Trump win the 2016 election)?
His followers took him seriously but not literally.
His opponents took him literally but not seriously.
I first heard that about 4 years ago - it still holds true today. The MSM over those 4 years demonstrated this repeatedly.

Re: The Orange Man. He's bad. Very, very bad!
I agree with a lot of this articleIf you look closely, there are actually four different Republican factions today: principled conservatives, cynically tactical conservatives, unprincipled conservatives and Trump cultists. In the principled conservatives camp, I’d put Romney and Murkowski. They are the true America firsters. While animated by conservative ideas about small government and free markets, they put country and Constitution before party and ideology. They are rule-abiders.
In the cynically tactical conservative camp, which you could call the Mitch McConnell camp, I’d put all of those who tried to humor Trump for a while — going along with his refusal to acknowledge the election results until “all the legal votes were counted” — but once the Electoral College votes were cast by each state, slid into the reality-based world and confirmed Biden’s victory, some sooner than others.
“I call them the ‘rule-benders,’” explained pollster Craig Charney. “They are ready to bend the rules but not break them.”
The unprincipled Republicans — the “rule-breakers” in Charney’s lingo — are led by Hawley and Cruz, along with the other seditious senators and representatives who tried to get Congress to block its ceremonial confirmation of Biden’s election.
Finally, there are the hard-core Trump cultists and QAnon conspiracy types, true believers in and purveyors of the Big Lie.
I just don’t see how these four camps stay together. And for America’s sake, I hope they don’t.
But Democrats will have a say in this, too. This is their best opportunity in years to get some support from center-right Republicans. Be smart: Ban the phrase “defund the police.” Talk instead about “better policing,” which everyone can get behind. Instead of “democratic socialism,” talk about “more just and inclusive capitalism.” And tone down the politically correct cancel culture on college campuses and in newsrooms. While it’s not remotely in the league of those trying to cancel a whole election, it’s still corrosive.
I know, it looks real dark right now. But if you look at the diverse, high-quality center-left cabinet that Biden has assembled and the principled, center-right Republicans who are looking to be problem solvers, not Trump soldiers, maybe that light in the tunnel isn’t a train coming at us after all.

You and I know what a red flag the word socialism is to your average American. I think that's his point, get rid of slogans and phrases that just make people angry and miss the point.

Not sure how you arrive at it still holding true today after the Capitol Building riot. Some of his biggest GOP supporters, the 'take him seriously but not literally' people, are bailing on him and voting for impeachment.Reka wrote:Actually, the most accurate and eloquent way I've heard it put is:

Re: The Orange Man. He's bad. Very, very bad!
Capitol Police have said there were rioters yelling at them "the President sent us!".
Off-duty cops in the crowd flashing their badges saying "we're doing this for you".
Tours of the Capitol building for now known rioters, by GOP members the day before. Public tours have been banned since March due to covid.
Panic buttons removed from Congress people's offices.
Footage of a woman on a megaphone telling rioters very specific details of the floorplan of the building and that they "need to co-ordinate if we're going to take the building".
Trucks found with bombs and lists of names. Rioters with cable cuff ties. Gallows.
Nah, nobody took Trump literally.

Whackadoodle QAnon senator/congresswoman/whatever tweeted out Pelosi's location when they were in hiding FML
Edit: My bad, she tweeted out to let the mob know Pelosi had been removed from the Senate chamber, which is where the mob was heading.

I've been reading through the transcripts of Trump's speeches and in none of them can I see where he said to do any of those things. Let me know if you can find them.Capitol Police have said there were rioters yelling at them "the President sent us!".

Nah, nobody took Trump literally.
I've done some google searching for his 'calls to violence' and the best I could find was some rhetoric that could be construed as 'dog whistling'. But that's about it. If he had, I'm sure the MSM would have it plastered all over the place and it would be easy to find. Instead there's a bunch of rhetoric and innuendo which is what he's always been about but that's about it. "Trump comments perceived by some as encouraging violence" is about the extent of it.
To claim Trump told thousands of people to literally be violent or cause damage is a stretch. He did no such thing.
No, his supporters didn't take him literally this time either. But it seems a lot of them did take him seriously though.

Re: The Orange Man. He's bad. Very, very bad!
Yeah but what Ambrose and Unfnk seem unable to grasp is that we all think the other rioting was bad and should have been stopped, it is all bad. As soon as you legitimise it you've lost any authority on the topic hence 50% of the US just dont give a fuck and no one except her rabid supporters give two fucks that Pelosi outraged. The kink between us is that everyone agrees violence is bad and rioting really bad except if we think it can hurt Trump because he's Hitler or say if we are gonna storm a supreme court hearing because Kavanaugh is the worlds no 1 rapist rioting and breaking into buildings is OK, but that mob wasn't incited at the capital now was it? I remember all the calls for calm and the solemn news reports when President Trump was rushed into the bunker when they first went at the White House.Madmya wrote:Yes, because well-rounded humans sometimes joke and they are sometimes serious. No effort was made by the other side to stop it at any point over the last 4 years, in fact it was encouraged as my pic above shows and that's just a few quotes, it's not hard to find more either but because it's ideologically aligned then it's all fine. Remember, the riots started day 1 of his presidency, in the first minutes during his inauguration.
And there's no hope of gaining traction about not accepting the election results after the Democrats sent the country to shit creek making up the entire MUH RUSSSIAAAA, Russian agent thing for losing and then spending 4 years having a tantrum about the election and as soon as they win or get their way acting like 5 year olds pretending it never happened.
