Yeeeeeeeeeeah bitch.

http://www.wpcentral.com/surface-pro-3- ... g-revealed" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Come this Tuesday, Microsoft is holding a small but major press event in New York City dealing with the Surface line of devices. Rumors of a Surface 'Mini' have been circulating, suggesting that a device around 8-inches with a new pen will be one of the major talking points. In recent days, reports of a 'Surface Pro 3' started popping up, but instead of a Surface Pro 2 refresh, this appears to be a new model, possibly with a larger screen size.

Windows Phone Central has learned some of the details of this new series, including pricing, processors and storage size. In addition, there will be new Type covers, possibly to fit the larger device.

For the Surface Pro 3, which is now confirmed as being a real device, there will be five versions offered with varying pricing and configurations:

i3-4GB RAM-64GB - $799
i5-4GB RAM-128GB - $999
i5-8GB RAM-256GB - $1299
i7-8GB RAM-256GB - $1549
i7-8GB RAM-512GB - $1949
As mentioned above, there will also be new Type covers, though it's not known what – if anything – is new about them. Considering the Surface Pro 3 is expected to be a larger device (possibly in the 12 inch range), it would make sense that large Type covers would be required. Those covers will come in the following colors:

Black
Purple
Cyan
Red (Microsoft Exclusive, possibly limited to Microsoft Stores)
Other details about the Surface Pro 3 hint at a smaller bezel, larger screen size and the Windows button being located on the vertical side, as opposed to horizontal. Unfortunately details about weight, battery life, screen size and dimensions, are not known.

Ah that sucks. Would the SSD make less RAM not as big a deal?

I've got to decide whether to go 512gb or 256gb. I'm thinking 256gb since it's mostly going to be used for work stuff with a bit of gaming on the side. Cheeky gaming.

It's amazing how they nailed absolutely everything I could have possibly wanted out of this... then removed the Wacom digitizer. Will have to wait for reviews to see how well the pen works now.

You'll probably be able to use the old wacom on it, they're only $30 or $40. Damn exxy, but I'm in!

Nah it seems like they removed the Wacom sensor board to make it thinner. Anyway, I've already gotten over it. My PL500 that I've been using for the last 10 years has the same pressure sensitivity and I still don't mind that apart from the latency.

Fucking expensive though. I still think it's kind of ridiculous that they don't include a type cover with that price - especially when they're advertising it as a replacement for your laptop.

But yeah, overall this is what I want, badly.

Hmmm maybe want?

Not overly happy with the CPU choice (Haswell again) and the missed opportunity for an even slimmer more power efficient device. Though they have managed to get the weight down and slimmed it up a bit while offering a bigger form factor so not all bad.

I would like to see the Surface Pro 2 replaced with the same 10.6" form factor but slimmer/lighter (think surface 2 size). That would need a Broadwell or whatever comes next from Intel.

If I was in the market I'd be getting this over a SP2 but it isn't really a step up, more a refinement/alternative.

Edit: I'm actually going to be interested in how they handle the really high DPI. 1080p at 10.6 is already pushing the boundaries in desktop mode and in Metro IE I tend to scale the font 125/150% for nicer we reading which can end badly when someone puts a massive high rest picture in a post etc.

i5/8GB RAM/256GB - $1299.99
This sounds perfect. Really like the fact they've gone to 3:2 as well, it's much better for regular use.

Add $250 onto that price for Australia.

I have preordered one.
i5 256gb

Im believing the hype and hope it replaces my laptop and ipad combo for work and play.

If so I'll happily piss off them off.

I have pre ordered on the MS online store for the 14 day no questions asked return policy just in case it just doesn't cut it.

But I have faith ;)

I doubt any device could currently replace an iPad for play...I don't own an iPad so I'm not being a biased cock either. I just think the iPad is well catered for in that regard.

Worst case scenario I downgrade from my 128gb air to an iPad mini
But I'll test the surface out as a play device first

I honestly love my Surface Pro. I guess you will have the option to play a lot of stuff available on Steam that an iPad couldn't get anywhere near. And you could add a wireless Xbox pad. There's a lot of freedom to be enjoyed on a Surface.

It'd be better if they built the Xbox wireless receiver into the machine itself...

I'm still loving my first gen 128GB Surface Pro.

So much freedom as Cletus says. Hoping Windows Phone 8.1 is as good as the reports seem to indicate, I'm liking a lot of what Microsoft is doing at the moment with their one OS to rule them all approach. Even if it took them a while to realise that the desktop market is still pretty bloody important.

The love still doesn't extend to Xbox One (or PS4 for that matter). Master Race for me this gen! :D
Currently playing: Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (PC), Far Cry 4 (PC), FIFA 23 (Series X)

It might be worth noting to some of you that the i7's have the HD5000 onboard graphics chipset, rather than the HD4400 for the i3/i5 models. I don't know how much better one is over the other, but I'm pretty sure I read HD5000 is 50% better at rendering 3D than HD4000 (surface pro 1st gen).

I think I am going to upgrade to a 256GB, 8GB, i5. Wanting to run a handful of VM's and 4GB will only get me so far.

My laptop is really starting to have issues (battery is dead dead and I can only run the thing when it is plugged in) so this could be a good replacement for it.

I don't think a Surface or the Microsoft store will ever be as good at being a games tablet compared to the ipad. I have an iPad air and it's pretty schmick for games... BUT I've never really used the surface for games mainly because there are very few developed for it that are worth playing.

Well I use my surface to play games like Starcraft 2 and Counterstrike... not sure how the ipad goes with those. :P

Plug in an xbox controller, load up an emulator and you've got all the games you need. Shit, it can even emulate a gamecube.

Don't forget.. I'm running the 1st Gen RT ;)

Alas you have to have an xbox controller that isn't a wireless one also and i can't really justify spending the money on that since I can play better games on my 360 still :D
