Modem/Router Help

Post by AgOnNy »

Hi guys,

Really hope someone can help me. I have some new gadgets (LIFX LED light bulbs) that are unable to connect to my network. Reading around, it appears that 95% of the issues are due to incorrect net mask (needs to be 255.255.255.0).

I have a Billion 7800N, in the configuration my network mask is 255.255.255.0 however when I look at my 'quick' stats it says that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.255.

I can't seem to find anywhere that enables me to edit this apart from the one area that has the '255.255.255.0' in it. I've searched around the net & seen people talk about changing to a /24 prefix or something...but unable to find this.

Anyone able to help me out? :run:

Does it affect XBL?

My solution... Use the light Switch ;)

..... I'll have a look at my 7800N later and see what I can see.

Might I suggest Ags has a tantrum first. I found it made me seem more helpless.

OK: You are probably looking at the WAN (internet) connection details.

On a windows PC go to command prompt

type: ipconfig /all

This will show what your DHCP server is dishing out.

If it isn't 255.255.255.0 (mine is out of the box)

Go to your 7800N and
- switch view to advanced
-click configuration
-click lan
- You will now see your netmask settings (which are editable)

Having typed all of this I suspect your problem is going to be elsewhere.

I think Ags needs to give us a detailed review of these LiFX bulbs. They look the goods.

'ipconfig /all' shows the netmask as 255.255.255.0. I've gone back into the settings & it's the same.

However when first logging into the modem & clicking 'Basic', under 'Status>WAN' the Netmask is showing as 255.255.255.255.

Yeah that's the internets. Unless you are setting it up so we can throw a light Switch Rave I don't think it is relevant.

I have a hot gaming rig and $20k in assets but I'm unsure what your modem problem is.
