Urgent Minimal electronic music advice...

Post by Timbo »

Hello Games Ranch!

May I ask some music advice? I'm working on the Winter Olympics for Channel 10 and I'm searching for some music for a piece I wanna make tonight - It's all extreme slomo pictures of skiers crashing etc etc, ice flying everywhere, think tiny snow particles flying about (slowly!), but with a really heavy slow, smeary, sound design element.

The music I'm searching for would be a really sweet sounding electronic, dub - MINIMAL - but still sweet for normal people to listen to. Think Jon Hopkins, but less glitchy.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance... :)

He's so not going to notice in time. The only thing I can think of is Supersymmetry by Arcade Fire but I wouldn't say it had a heavy, smeary sound to it.

What about the first couple of minutes of this before the vocals?

Asleep from Day or Sunshine Underground - Chemical Brothers
Everyday Robots - Damon Albarn

Probably way off. The Damon Albarn track is excellent - particularly toward the end

Closest I've come is Candles by Jon Hopkins. I think it's a winner... Cheers for your suggestion lads! :)

How long does it have to be?

Dunno if its what you were thinking, but the intro to 'love hate love' by Alice in chains would be sick for something like that.
Give it a listen, even if it doesn't suit you will have listened to a fucking great song :)

Hey timbo, did you do the animated diamond background I keep seeing?
I love that, keep crapping on about it to my wife, she doesn't appreciate shit like that like I do

Hey Jizzy! Nah, not my work this time - I like it too... I did have a fair bit to do with the opening titles, but that's it. I'm being contracted strictly for editing and making creative music pieces this time around. (which ain't a bad thing!)

Also, boo to Channel 10 for doing a split operation and holding us all in Melbourne, would much rather we were in Russia! :(

You're sorted now but if you ever need genre-specific electronic music head to specialist DJ/dance music store Beatport where you can drill down and sample until you find what you need.
