What they show do about vertical video syndrome
What they show do about vertical video syndrome
It's a scurge, they should do a thing where you can hold your phone vertical but actually get a horizontally framed shot.
The Galaxy Note easily has the spare megapixels, where they could discard some of the frame, forcing the user to squeeze the picture into the frame and the file would be formatted to come out as the right aspect ratio and the person taking the shot wouldn't have to degrade themselves by rotating their phone.
But how would they display the viewfinder on the vertical screen? Would they have to populate the bottom of the screen with options so people don't feel gipped they can't fill the screen?
Hmm.
Are any manufacturers doing this?

I know you want to use the phone you have and you should be able to use the phone you have for something this simple so my advice is buy an iPhone.
I think that's what you show do.

(Worldstar) !!
But seriously do iPhones do this?
I want all phones to do this, it would make fight videos so much better.

Re: What they show do about vertical video syndrome
That's cool, but I think phone manufacturers would have to make it standard before worldstar hip hop content and random incidents caught on camera by bystanders would benefit.
A lot of people don't even realize they are ruining the video by going vertical.

Also, the standard setup of most cameras isn't built around the fact that the end user is going to do this. (FOV of the camera lens etc).
With a bit of thought and care (using super high megapixel cameras with flexible CCD configuration), this feature could be implemented as standard on all phones and rid us of all these poorly captured moments in a way that doesn't truncate the quality too much.

Holy shit could you imagine if something like the Kennedy assassination was caught on vertical video? The only real evidence of a monumental event and it's captured by some stooge doing a vertical video.
I do get it though, holding your camera sideways telegraphs what you're doing to everyone around you, but you can be way more discreet holding it upright.

Turn your phone ffs... That app is pointless, you have to be thinking about this issue to launch the app, this means you should also think to turn your phone.

im forever educating people to turn their phones if they want to view their videos on a computer or tv
