Win xp finally dead
Win xp finally dead
So MS finally announced they will no longer be supporting windows xp.
Why does this matter?
Well aside from XP>>>>>> all other OS ( ); what is a worry is that most ATMs in Australia run XP. What does this mean for our security? If it doesn't affect our security then what does it mean for banks; hiring people to maintain/support their (now outdated) system?

I'm getting used to Windows 8.1 and there are some features of it that make it fucking incredible.. but Windows 7 was/is the best OS. Then XP.

I'm surprised they use XP - I thought they all ran OS/2 or eComStation.

Must say, with a skin on it Windows 8.1 is pretty cool. Light on resources and quick to boot, only big issue so far is driver support.

Very much love Windows 7. I'll move to 8 eventually but 7 is great
Re: Win xp finally dead
They might, I'm just parroting controversy from RRRFM's byte into it program. my go to line when I get used to people's psuedo-tech-support is ''it would work if you had win xp'' because it has a special place in my heart; the xp>* comment was partly ironic, its a fucking dog by win 7 standards.I'm surprised they use XP - I thought they all ran OS/2 or eComStation.

Hah. I still use XP for some things. As good as Win7 is, it's pretty poor when it comes to home studio audio recording.

That's my theory too. It's like the Star Trek film theory.

Yeah.. Windows XP was fucking awesome for home studio stuff.. I really miss the "What You Hear" sound option. Windows 8 has nothing of it.. fuckers.

MS just revealed that they're bringing the start menu back for the next update.

Re: Win xp finally dead
So will Windows 8.1 Update 1 be what Windows 8 should have been all along, or is the start menu coming in an even later update?

Can't understand why Metro wasn't just integrated into the Start menu as above. Similar to the way Android expands folders. I don't mind Windows 8 at all, very light OS

Re: Win xp finally dead
I expect so much more from Windows these days, after using Android for so long (and I'm sure iOS users feel the same). There's just so much that it does that seems so natural that I get frustrated when Windows doesn't do it.

I was an early adopter of Windows 8 and have seen it improve in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years, and I love the vision of essentially one OS across desktop PCs, laptops/tablets, phones and consoles (and I own a desktop PC, Surface Pro, Windows Phone and an Xbox 360), but god damn they're slow at bringing it all together. Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 are still essentially Beta products that have been out for several years now

Re: Win xp finally dead
I hope they get rid of this bullshit requirement to have a MS account to login to your computer in Windows 8.2
I've not updated to 8.1 because the workarounds sound like a real pain in the arse.
