Re: Windows 10
Desktop PC and Surface Pro both running a fresh Windows 10 install
I've also completely re-arranged my study in anticipation of the new PC I'll be getting in a few weeks, so my Surface (with full-size wireless keyboard and mouse connected) is now my main PC. My next task will be getting a remote connection happening to my old desktop PC (currently sitting in the corner) so I can set it up as a game server for Steam etc.

Re: Windows 10
Plug it in to an external screen like your tv and buy a wireless mouse and keyboard. You can even shut your laptop.

That's what I'm doing to update it but my 50" plasma hurts my thighs after a while... Minor eye strain too.

Adjust font sizes and whatnot. I run my laptop like that, just adjusted all the fonts and increased icon size. We only use our laptop for media and a bit of browsing. Everything else is done via our phones.

Same for me. An error that obviously wasn't isolated to me, no explanation for the error, no fix in sight. Most people aren't just going to format like I did.

Re: Windows 10
My favorite error is when it just says "something went wrong"
Re: Windows 10
I'm actually getting a crash after playing BF4 for about half an hour.
Hopefully they get on top of that. Other than that, all positive impressions so far.

I think they're sick of making up excuses.
Re: Windows 10
Yeah... it's like when they say 'Windows is looking for a solution to this problem...'

Re: Windows 10
You have one year to take up the free update offer, so I am holding back to see what happens.
I do have a question regarding the forced updates. What happens if your months quota is getting low and you want to save your remainIng Giga bytes for day to day internet usage. How do you stop the forced updates in this situation?
What happens if you disconnect your PC from the internet to stop a forced update? What is windows 10 like offline?

This website says you cannot stop updates.

Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Updates Cannot Be Stopped
I haven't upgraded yet, but surely there has to be a way to.Here’s the official line:
“The software periodically checks for system and app updates, and downloads and installs them for you. You may obtain updates only from Microsoft or authorized sources, and Microsoft may need to update your system to provide you with those updates. By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive these types of automatic updates without any additional notice.”
In short: Windows 10 will automatically download and install updates and you have no option to switch them off.

Just change your network connection to a metered connection. Updates won't download then.

Listen, and understand! That Windows 10 is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

Re: Windows 10
I have a theory as to why people are getting that. I'm attempting to upgrade Nicole's quite new Dell all in one and I was given the option this time rather than force starting the process as I did with four other devices - successfully. When you open the little task bar app and it says you're ready to go, if you go to the control panel first and check updates, you might notice a bar showing the progress for "preparing for installation". This Dell is taking a while to do that but just now it finished and automatically started the process...asking me first of course. Before that, I knew that W10 had downloaded and was trying to launch the upgrade via the little app but I got the "something went wrong" message a lot. I ignored the little taskbar app option instead watching the progress for "preparing for installation" in Windows Update (via control panel) and the upgrade seems to be going ahead. It appears that the app and windows aren't communicating with each other properly.jizzlobber wrote:My favorite error is when it just says "something went wrong"
To be honest, I found the force start method a lot easier to initiate.
Is that from Sarah and the Futurebots? It sounds familiar. I'm pretty sure it's Sarah and the Futurebots.flipswitch wrote:Listen, and understand! That Windows 10 is out there! 5 for 5. We'd lost bluetooth initially on the last one but Windows 10 automatically updated the driver, so crisis averted.

I just put together my new PC and figured I could just install the last technical preview build and update from there. Huge mistake; MS got there first and shut the door on me

Re: Windows 10
Got my work remote access working in windows10, so my other laptop got updated last night, this one was very smooth with proper ready to install prompts, no driver issues.
The last PC in the house is the HTPC which I don't really use much anymore, but I'll update it soon because reasons.

I wouldn't recommend this place. I bought a Windows 8.1 Pro key, only to find it had already been sold to somebody else. Their "live chat" is always unavailable despite promoting that they have 9+ staff available, and they haven't responded to my support ticket.
