somebody posted a link on Twitter a few days back showing that the idea of "Windows 9 = Windows 9x" isn't as far-fetched as it seems. Crazy.

Seriously, these 4 clicks are faster for you than Start button and type? How slowly do you type?

Being able to hit Start then bang out a few keys and Enter is faster than you'd even move your hand to the mouse. I hate anything that goes more than 1 submenu deep.

Call me crazy, but I just double-click media files to open them. I couldn't tell you the last time I opened a media player first, then opened a file from within it. I also don't have 10 media players, but each to their own. I do some wacky shit with Exposé in OSX that I generally don't see other people doing, and I do feel a little restricted when I'm using a different Mac that isn't set up the same way.

I guess the Mac equivalent to the Start thing would be using Spotlight to launch applications, which seems utterly bizarro to me. Searching via Start is a godsend for me on the Windows boxes at work though, but that's mainly because other people fill the HDD up with poorly organised shit, and I usually know exactly what I'm looking for. Committing a filename to memory is preferable to wading through someone else's mess.

I was sure when they brought the start menu back you'd be able to drag the edge out to fullscreen so you can see a bigger list.

I only also double click. All my media plays through VLC. I even pull out my iTunes purchases so I can play via VLC.

No 4 clicks needed! Just more of a staggered swipe as the folder tree auto opens. I dont have to touch the keyboard and I can run all the applications on my computer. Have been doing it for years, could do it without looking. Muscle memory and all that...

Clean installed this to a spare hard drive I found. Unsurprisingly, it runs way better than on a virtual disk.

I like the way it remembers my settings. I logged in and it had my colour scheme and background all set up. Then it also remembered the way I like to have Explorer display my files & whatnot.

...but then some things broke. Some apps just refuse to run. Winamp and LCDHost (for my G19 keyboard) just flat out refuse to start, no matter what the compatibility settings are. Odd, since they worked fine before. Updating to the latest build didn't change anything in that regard, either.

I'm thoroughly sick of 'Modern' apps launching fullscreen.

As much as I hate to admit it, the new centralised 'Settings' app is great. It's nice to have all the things you need access to in a single app, instead of having to dig about in the Control Panel for that applet you can't quite remember the name of.

I love the way Windows now understands when you have more than one app for a given task (zip files, for example) and then asks you which one you want to use when you open the filetype. About time. Was this in Win8?

I'd like to be able to have Live Tiles pinned to my desktop, or as floating windows in their own right. Also, the smallest size you can make a 'Modern' app window is fucking huge. I mean, look at the size of this shit:
Untitled.png
I'd also like to be able to uninstall apps by dragging the shortcut to the recycle bin, but have it only work if you hover over it - like some Android homescreens.

All in, Windows 10 is taking a bunch of cues from the mobile OSes and implementing them mostly sensibly for the desktop. I like it.

I've been running build 10061 for the last few days. I think I'm ready to switch over entirely to Windows 10. There's nothing that I hate about it - just small annoyances.

I know I can install it for my mobile... I mean its nit like there are any apps for 8.1... I just worry anything actually useful will stop altogether.

Some of the apps in 10061 are still rough, but the core os is looking pretty good now. We have MS build this week, but the rumors of a July release look doable to me. I expect the phone release 2-3 months after, I tried the recent preview build and it has too many bugs/issues.

Loving the look of 10 and having apps in windows is a god send, who would of thought. ;)

well, I think it's about damn time Windows joined the like of OSX and Linux with a central unified settings/preferences app. I figure it was probably there in Win8 as well going by the earlier builds, but the new one is much better.

They've only enabled 'aero glass' for the taskbar and start menu. Fuck that, I want transparent titlebars too!

I want my money back already.

I probably said this with Windows 8 as well, but geez if Microsoft can pull it off it's exciting:

Are MS doing any deals for upgrading from Win8.1 or has it not got a proper public release yet?

*edit*
Nm, did a quick Googley and it says free for Cheaters. Of course I qualify.

Apparently the "free upgrade to all" preserves the licensing status of the existing OS. Therefore, if your existing Windows is Canadian in origin, so is your Windows 10. Boo-urns.

Apparently it doesn't work for Enterprise editions either, which is a shame, because I'm stuck on a copy of Windows 7 I got through my old company.

MS doing everything they can to close the app gap, it's the main problem with windows and Windows phone... This is pretty amazing, if that works you'd have to think a lot of devs will take advantage of it.

Looks like MS are making a lot of good moves with Windows 10.

I loved my Windows Phone. I found the OS itself so much better than Android (and I'm running 5.0 on the LG G3, so it's a good phone).

I've gone back to my Lumia 1020 and I'm loving it, I was a bit feed up with the lack of games and apps when I switched to the HTC one m8 but I didn't enjoy the OS near as much.

Hopefully these efforts will help the app situation
