Yeah, and they're doing the same thing for iOS apps too.

Some of the stuff I've read against the idea are that it will fail because it failed for OS/2 and Blackberry :? And that it will lead to apps that looks like Android and iOS apps on Windows, so there won't be any consistency in look and feel.

I guess we'll see, apps not fitting the metro/modern theme is only a problem for the real fanboys, you already see it now (facebook app is pretty much the same).

windows 10 coming end of month!!

I've already reserved my upgrade, you will probably see an update that shows a little windows icon in your tray, clicking this allows you to reserve/preload the update.

Suppose I'll buy a copy for my main PC too.

I have authentic on my laptop, but not my desktop.

Question: If I have an 'active' student card (I enrolled for 2 years an got a 2 year student card, 2014 and 2015, but I decided not to go to uni this year, I'm not really a student) can I turn up at say, Dick Smith and get the student version of Windows 8 for $69, just by flashing my 2016 expiry date student card?

I think if you've got a valid university email address then you'll be sweet.

You'll have to double check this, but I was under the impression that all Surface 3 purchases were automatically able to upgrade Windows 10 for free. Legit free, not 1 year free or whatever it is.

Even though everything running Windows is set to auto update, I found I still had to run a manual update from the control panel (rather than the swipe on the right side update option) on my pc and Surface Pro and then I got the update icon.

Thieves can have Windows 10 for free. That's nice. Bad luck if you paid for an RT version of Windows though. You get an update of some description but not the full W10 experience.

Flashing the card should be enough. Retailers can't access your university records or anything like that, so even if they gave a shit they couldn't see that you've deferred.

Dude, it was even easier. I entered my email on the microsoft website and they sent me an activation key for $69.

Activated my canadian Winblows in seconds. Preloading windows 10 now. Well stoked with that.

Thrustmaster have released Windows 10 drivers for the TX Racing Wheel. And others too, probably.

heads up, anyone running the 'fast ring' previews - there's been three builds released in three days. The most recent one is apparently 10162, so if you only have 10158 or 10159 showing up, apparently if you reboot, the new one will show up. Bam.

Running the preview build on my phone... It's fairly buggy...

tbh the mobile version isn't a big step over win phone 8. Besides some new UI choices it's just samey. They seem to have dropped Nokia apps though... No Here Maps or the superior Nokia camera app. MS Maps is pretty much ripped straight from Here Maps though, so it's not too painful.

I know it's a preview build but performance is pretty terrible. Lots of screen tearing and apps taking forever to load or just completely locking up the phone.

I wouldn't recommend loading Win 10 on your phone until full release. There is nothing new or cool t get excited about.
