I haven't tried Windows 10 yet, looking forward to it... There's a lot of really good ideas in there.

Really how it does well, MS are doing good things and deserve some rewards.

Actually I've just realised I've got a massive problem on my hands - disk space. Apparently it requires 20gb, that's nearly half my surface pro!

In less than 24 hours, Microsoft will start upgrading Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines to Windows 10. The software giant is preparing for this big release, at 12AM ET on July 29th (9PM PST on July 28th), by pre-loading the final version of Windows 10 on PCs eligible for the upgrade. A number of Windows 7 and Windows 8 users who have registered for the upgrade have started noticing that the full installer files for Windows 10 have been downloaded to C:\$windows.~BT as Microsoft gets ready for release.

Honestly, The Verge is a great, sucking suckhole of bias and conflicting information. They're the only place that's reported a time zone dependency. It's possibly true, but the info isn't on the MS site...

Yeah that folder appeared on my c drive last night, I was checking the Windows forum at whirlpool and they say its Windows 10 pre load.

Pretty sure it's just an upgrade so all your programs and settings will remain.

Once Windows 10 is installed you will then be given the option to format and perform a clean install.

I haven't installed anything over the last few days but I notice my hard drive is filling up. I assume Windows 10 is downloading and not some virus

How hefty is it to run? I'm running a compatible but very basic work PC which gets used for web browsing, excel, powerpoint and running music.. will Windows 10 be too memory hungry and possibly too beastly for this lower spec machine?

It's a hidden folder in case you didn't know, make sure you have them visible before going nuts.

There is also a way to force it to download in cmd... Seen it mentioned in the thread at whirlpool.

The folder is between 4 and 6gb it seems, nobody had been able to install yet, perhaps when the US east coast ticks over past midnight in 2 more hours?

Yeah I figured it was hidden but still no good. I definitely dont have the space. It's alright my skydrive is big enough, just going to back it up, get rid of it, try download.
