Suck it straight sets losers
Although I was getting annoyed with the commentators having a big cry about the Prelim. One of them eventually said Gee Dub deserved it. That shut the muppets up. Fuck's sake.

Re: AFL Season 2014
End of an era.
Five consecutive Prelims... four grand finals... three premierships.
It's been a Hell of a ride... and something I have no doubt I will not experience again in my lifetime.
We were, like premiers for over 1000 days!.
Add in 2008 and it's been a dream come true. When I was marching in the anti-merger rallies through the streets of Hawthorn nigh on 20 years ago... I feared I would never see them actually play again!

Re: AFL Season 2014
That merger was actually a thing. Jumper recap:
Good god. When I saw the Dogs' banner refer to Hawthorn's 75k members I immediately thought of that proposed merger. I hated all the constant push for Vic clubs to merge back then. Poor, poor Fitzroy. That Fitzroy's final game ever was in Perth still shits me.

Re: AFL Season 2014
BTW the reason Melbourne dominated the proposed jumper designs was because they were the ones with the cash back then. They were buying in on broke Hawthorn's then still recent premiership success. Hawthorn's finances and revenues rival Collingwood these days.

Re: AFL Season 2014
I'm not surprised at all. I applaud what Hawthorn have done. They (and Geelong and Sydney) are the benchmarks upon which I rate all the teams.Darwi wrote:Why is everyone surprised that the Hawks are trading aggressively to rebuild.
What riles me up is that the Eagles aren't doing the same. For the club that basically laid down the blueprint on how to build a squad through the draft when it was shiny and new to just sit back as free agency and aggressive moves at the trade table become the new recipe for success (Buddy and Tippett to Sydney, Dangerfield to Geelong, the Hawthorn examples etc) is staggering. I know it's a shitload harder to entice AAA talent to Perth than it is Melbourne or Sydney, but when Ballantyne and Petrie are the two headline acts this off-season? Fuck me.
And now we have no midfield coach, and the first person we ran to was Peter Sumich. Who predictability turned us down. FOR. FUCK'S. SAKE.
Cuz must still be shoving our ridiculous profits up his nose because I'm not seeing any of it being used wisely. Our new list management boss is Brady Rawlings, who held list management roles at Norf. Because their list is in such good order. Jesus Christ.
Simpson, Rawlings and Petrie? One of the richest clubs (and the most profitable) in the competition is becoming Norf Melbourne Junior. What the actual fuck?

Looks like someone forgot to tell Geelong that the first bounce was 7:50, not 9:30.

Re: AFL Season 2014
The bye seems to have thrown a lot of teams off.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Doggies get up today purely due to Gee Dub not playing much footy this month. The Doggies also benefited by getting back injured players they wouldn't have been able to were it not for the bye.

Re: AFL Season 2014
Scott is saying to not blame the bye but really, you don't have to be an expert to surmise playing one game of footy in a month won't affect how you start a game.

My mate who died earlier this year was the most mad keen Doggies fan. I got quite upset after the match that he missed out on all of this by a few months.

That's really sad EV. Amazing game yesterday.
Surely the whole country aside from Swans fans is backing the Dogs.
I'm pulling for them to win both the AFL and NRL Grand Finals next week.

Re: AFL Season 2014
Fucking post season bye.
BOTH QF winners lost the PF. BOTH OF THEM.
Up until now... 28 / 32 sides with the week off had won the PF.
Surely playing one game of competitive football in the preceeding three weeks can't be good for you.
And when you played the PF... your opponent was usually picking themselves off the canvas after playing cut-throat EF and SF consecutively (and whatever they had to do to scrape into the finals in the first place).
Finishing top four and winning the QF is SUPPOSED TO PUT YOU IN THE FUCKING BOX SEAT.
And look... a side from outside the top four was going to make the GF eventually... and I will be barracking for them on Saturday... but it's just wrong if the week off facilitated it.
AFL fuckers.

Re: AFL Season 2014
GWS v Dogs a very different game though. Close from the start. The script says the rested team would pull away late in the game. The Dogs' story proved more irresistible. On the road to smash WC, beat reining triple premiers Hawks, on the road to beat GWS. Dogs tipped to lose all of them. Go Dogs.

Re: AFL Season 2014
HOLY SHIT!!!HAWTHORN star Sam Mitchell appears set to join West Coast next season.
Mitchell could join the Eagles in 2017 on a one-year playing contract with a coaching component attached to his contract in the years after that.
The 34-year-old, who recently won his fifth best and fairest award at the Hawks, revealed it was coach Alastair Clarkson who put forward the option of joining the Eagles.
"I didn't go to the club and say I want to go to West Coast," Mitchell said.
"Clarko came over and said, as a friend, 'Is that something you'd be interested in?'
"And you could have knocked me over with a feather to be honest."
After digesting the news, Mitchell spoke with his wife Lyndall about the possibility of the move and as a family they decided it was the right fit for them.
Mitchell has three young children – Smith, Scarlett and Emerson – and said he felt the time might be right to make the move.
