lol Ambrose are you actually trying to negate Freo's NAB Cup thrashing of the Eagles through a subsequent nine point loss to the Kangas in Melbourne? At least they had a game to lose.
And are you even aware that you're using the pre season comp to score points against Freo after you've spent the past few posts dismissing its relevance due to shithouse performances from the Eagles? Your one-eyed barracking knows no limits.

Of course. As if I'm going to let little things like a consistent argument stand in my way when it come to football (and the Eagles and Dockers in particular).Peppermint Lounge wrote:And are you even aware that you're using the pre season comp to score points against Freo after you've spent the past few posts dismissing its relevance due to shithouse performances from the Eagles?
Surely this isn't news to you?

Ambrose... my scoffing was in relation to just what is your rationale behind the jibe of the 'Tasmanian Hawks'?
Just because we play some home games there?
We play in Tasmania for;
a) the National branding / membership boost / sponsorship.
b) to gain some sort of home ground advantage.
c) because playing interstate sides at the MCG is a money loss.
d) the $3M a year the Tassie Government pays us to do it.
But we don't NEED to do it... the Hawks are probably the third best Club financially in Victoria;
- We have had ten consecutive years of end of year profits.
- Our membership has been stable around 30K, despite poor on-field scores.
- We have close to $6M in the bank.
- Our training facilities (brand new mulit-million dollar complex at Waverley) are second to none - not even the Eagles'.
And besides... Tasmania isn't capable of supporting a team on it's own anyway. The Interstate sides are swimming with around 500-700K per head of population per team... while the Victorian sides are tripping over themselves at around 400K per head. Tassie has about 490K people all up... spread over a wide geographical area... so it's a no show really.

OK. As for my rationale, from where I stand (on the other side of the country, basking in premiership success ) all I can see is the AFL pushing clubs like St Kilda and Hawthorn to play home games in Tasmania, just like the Kangaroos and Canberra/Gold Coast. It seems to me that a permanent move is the next logical step.

Given the choice, I'd rather have a couple of players that run away from booze buses and throw taxi antennas around in between winning premierships instead of players that eye gouge the opposition.
Fremantle. The AFL's biggest thugs. I guarantee that by the end of round 15 they will be the AFL's most hated team

And their two biggest offseason pickups will only make things worse. I love Solly, but he is undiciplined and at times frankly stupid (And I was saying this on Bomber forums BEFORE he got traded, and we got Basher and The Jett in return, HEH!) and as for Taz, well, he nearly destroyed the fabric of teh Pies with his off-field shennannigans. They will fit in well at the Anchors- did I mention that I loathe Jeff Farmer?

On that note...who do you hate the most in the AFL?
I hate - Jeff Farmer. Wanker. Just a toss, and a washed-up one at that;
The Scott Brothers - Thugs pretending to be AFL players.
Nigel Lappin - Greasy turdburgler.
Cam Moony - makes Fev look like a brain surgeon, and
Brodie Holland - shit player who scraggs his way to a paycheck. And quite possibly the most arrogant and dumbest person I have ever met
edit - Brett Montgomery - his comments to Rama were one of the lowest acts I have ever heard of.

Gherig is a massively strong player. Not sure if he's still has the league's best bench press?
Dustin Fletcher is a champion full back with a few blemishes. Considering how long he's played there he's allowed a few of those. He's absolutely not a malicious player. The positive impact he's had there far outweighs the negatives. And I don't say that because I'm an Essendon man, I've made similar observations of players from other teams as well.
