Vince wrote:He has so much potential. He could turn a game on its head, yet he seems far too disinterested half the time. He would be a massive get for 17 other clubs though. I'd be a happy dons man with him staying. Get his body right and head right and he will give you a massive 2020.
He can turn a game on his own. Those types of players do command a tonne of value, even if the flashes are few and far between.

After I wrote him off above I was chatting to my physio about him. My physio works among elite sport and he confirmed Daniher's injuries have been mismanaged at Essendon. That would go a long way toward Daniher wanting out. Osteitis Pubis is an overuse injury and is what's kept him out for so long. You can appreciate the frustration of following your club's specialist instructions only to reinjure yourself and miss another season.

I'm still convinced that's one of the reasons Judd left all those years ago. He had OP in 2007 and we flogged the shit out of him, forcing the best player on the comp at that point to hobble about in a forward pocket. It was shit.

I have heard otherwise. I heard he left because of the drugs at your club.

Premiership captain Shannon Hurn has handed over the captaincy with a typically classy and pintpoint pass to Luke Shuey. It seems GameHED approves:
Kennedy continues as one Vice Captain, joined by Jeremy McGovern, who replaces Shuey.

I think it's great the Eagles finally have a league, reserves and women's team ... But AFLW should have been state-based like cricket for at least a decade before expansion was even considered.

Lots of problems with AFLW. Love the concept, but it was rushed to the masses. How about smaller grounds to play on? Less players on field? Shorten the quarters further? Make it a proper full length season instead of the crap they have now... it has a massive future if the AFL invest the time, money and effort to make it what it could and should be.

Agree with all that.

The strange thing is they do have less players on the field than the men (16 vs 18) but they play on normal-sized ovals.

The talent just isn't there at the moment to keep pace with the expansion.

Less players to reduce the risk of hard collisions I suspect. I live close to Whitten Oval and they put on a great show there. It's a small ground so the place feels full. Free entry, pleny of side attractions for the kids and plenty of merchandise sales for the Dogs.

GWS premiership favourites?

Out of all the serious contenders, they're the only ones used to playing in front of nobody.

Yeah true, he has yet to set a dwarf on fire or be caught in a hotel room after a drugs binge with a schoolgirl.

St Kilda sounds wild.

Richmond and Collingwood absolutely shat it up on Thursday night, Hawthorn stopped at half time last night.

Shit restart to the season. Hopefully the Eagles can fuck Gold Coast into the next millenium tonight.

To grab a top two spot this year, you can probably only afford to drop 2 or 3 games. Collingwood and Richmond's draw will hurt their chances big time.

Good.

Being a mad port fan this season's going alright so far. My main gripe is that the more we win the more the chances that Hinkley will get an extension and that dude needs to be out fucking asap. This is classic Hinkley for Port though, start good or do well but once the pressure goes on he goes back to a small forward line or his bullshit game plan and we collectively shit the bed. Never finished top 4 in a regular season under his watch and only made one final in the last 5 years, the dudes a fraud. Doing well but not winning it in this season will fuck us for years if we extend him, we got a bunch of old guys about to go off the cliff with a gap to the young ones so a new coach needs to come in for the new group.

I think this season to finish top 4 there'll be maybe 5 losses there as the draws fucking up everyone, we've beaten what are the worst 4 teams at the moment so it will be a good test against Brisbane tonight to see where we are at. Is there any value in a top 4 this year though? Are we even going to get a home final anyway? Doesn't seem so because of the SA gov banning anyone coming ffs.
Vzzzbx, you lose again!

I don't think a hub team (Adelaide, Port, West Coast, Freo) have beaten a home team (Brisbane, Gold Coast).

Looking forward to the Eagles getting through the Adelaide game next week before heading home (hopefully with a 3-3 record) and hosting a hub full of Victorian clubs in front of 60k footy-starved nutters like me

The Vics are gonna discover just how tough hub life is. And who the fuck knows when footy will be played in Austalia's Diseased Cesspool again?

Grand Final at Optus thank you come again.

No matter how much gnashing you do Ambrose the 'West Coast' (seriously could a net be cast any wider?) Eagles will always be an initiative of the Victorian Football League and why your state representative expansion club will always play against Victorian suburban clubs. :D

If that makes you feel better when contemplating the 16 years since Essendon's last finals win, go for it

Even Freo has a better record since then :rollin:

When dealing with WCE supporters yes it does, actually.

I’ve seen four of Essendon’s 16 VFL/AFL premierships in my football following life. You’ve done well to benefit from the 3.5 WCE premierships Victoria’s football community allowed you to enjoy.

Geez i'm going to stick up for a bombers supporter here which is not normal for me BUT more importantly, a fellow Vic! These interstate teams need to be reminded that we were once the VFL and changed to the AFL and ALLOWED other teams to enter into OUR competition! The SANFL, WAFL etc still exist. The VFL is now a bastardized version of what was the BEST state league in the land, hence why the best players in those comps jumped aqt the chance to join OUR competition that we opened up for the rest of Australia to enjoy. Make no mistakes, the game we are playing started off in Victoria and now is being enjoyed state wide. We welcome the interstate teams but just realize you're playing in OUR competition!
