Best musclecars?
Best musclecars?
Which ones would you select from the past and the present? Classic T/As had style, and the Chrysler SRT8 Core seems to represent modern muscle best. I guess this is about some models we would like to own, space and money permitting, lol.

hah. I have enough problems keeping my proper sports car in a straight line in wet weather on Tassie roads. Can't imagine what a big, dumb muscle car would do.

Re: Best musclecars?
... although having said that, you really can't go past the '78 Firebird Trans Am. It's got everything you want in a muscle car; audacious styling, bodacious t-top, excessive power from a big dumb engine delivered to a dumb rear drive unit.
Awwww yeah.
Edit: I say this as a proud SW20 owner; T-tops are fucking awful. Sure, they're better than a convertible, but they're just utterly, utterly awful things to live with.

They just look like everything else (IMO). What is it? A big Holden? Or a big Lexus? The art is gone. Everything looks like everything else.

Too right. No personality or character anymore. Hot-rods then into the 50's, 60's and 70's.....either Australian or American. No such thing as a muscle car anymore.Cletus wrote:They just look like everything else (IMO). What is it? A big Holden? Or a big Lexus? The art is gone. Everything looks like everything else.

Re: Best musclecars?
Agreed. I thought it was funny back in '93 when the new Falcon and Commodore looked very similar, after years of looking wildly different... and very little has changed since then.
Holden looks like Ford looks like BMW looks like Chrysler looks like Audi looks like Hyundai looks like Maserati.
Hopefully some of the Ford GT styling cues filter down to regular cars. Danger with Toyota and their 86. Hopefully they'll put the FT1 into production and the styling cues from that trickle down, too.

Re: Best musclecars?
Well definitely the American crop are the best looking. Mustang, camaro, challenger ( I think they still carry the torch of the muscle car) But the jag is a fucken jag. I'm sure it drives juuust fine.
The older muscle cars whilst very beautiful I can't eulogize about them too much.
Have you guys seen John Wick? Fair bit of muscle car worship in that.

Re: Best musclecars?
Goddamn that pic is shit-hot itch.
I love muscle cars, I think I'll always have one. It makes no sense to have one when rego is what it is for V8s and fuel is only going to go up, but stuffed if I'm getting a car I don't truly love.
There's no particular muscle car which is THE car for me, I like many of them. But two that come to mind are the GT that cloud posted and ye olde Chrysler Charger. I love the look of the new Mustang's coming to Australia too.

Re: Best musclecars?
Well the guy who designed the Jaguar is the same guy who designed HSV and Commodores, so you can see his influence there.
I like it, personally.
I see the Jaguar as like a ... commodore you can have without being a bogan.
Somehow Jag has prestige lol.
They sound incredible and definitely have muscle car cred.
Another favourite is the Corvette Stingray

Here's a thing about it
If one stuff like this goes on sale for ~60,000 dollars in Australia I don't think anyone will really miss Holden at all.

Re: Best musclecars?
Bring on that new Corvette with the MR layout that they're making. I actually hope GM can pull that off properly; we badly need a renaissance in affordable midship sportscars.
