I actually disagree with literally EVERYTHING these 3 unfunny nitwits stated in that extremely unfunny review. Including the fact they continue to praise the shit out of TFA, yet criticise Rogue One for inserting Star Wars nostalgia everywhere! They must've watched TFA with some funny glasses on cause, I'll say it again, it's just A New Hope with different named leads and a bigger Death Star. FFS. "So what if Rey is a Mary Sue"... So WHAT?!?! That's a major fucking flaw you blind fucking idiots! The over enthusiastic tone of the characters in TFA was so try hard it was ridiculous. I just can't believe there are people who say that TFA is better than Rogue One.
Anyway, whatever. Enjoy the crap JJ Abrams keeps ripping off...

Well I only said the first two minutes were funny...to me. No need to get cut with a review that doesn't agree with your idea of how Star Wars should be, you nutter. There won't be any more Star Wars films made to play like those horrible prequels you're so in love with. Thankfully. Or are you just angry that TFA is the third highest grossing film of all time - to date. Episode 1 sits at 23rd, Episode 2 sits at 102nd which says the audience emphatically did not like the previous film and Episode 3 sits at 52nd, which says people were ready to give George one more try....so clearly they're not as good. I'd say they needed more Mary Sues by the looks. Calm down Vince.

I sourced those rankings here - http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for making me research that. I'll edit the thread title for accuracy.

Bigger box office doesn't = better film. What did the original trilogy gross individually??? To each their own. I just can't fathom the heap of praise TFA constantly gets online. I enjoyed the film, but it wasn't THAT fucking good. Watching the prequels I left the cinemas extremely satisfied. Same with Rogue One. Leaving The Force Awakens was one of the most bitterly disappointing theatrical experiences of my life. Like I was watching an extended JJ Abrams tv show but only this time I have to wait 2 years to find out about intentional loose ends. Bullshit.

Like I said, it was good but I expected so much better. The hype was that it was "original trilogy" classic. All I got was an average Star Wars flick with boring characters and returning bored characters! Ho hum.

Yeah I don't know about that. Most people at least remembered the names of the new characters when they left TFA. I can only remember the name of Jyn in Rogue One. I honestly couldn't remember any other character's names because they were so forgettable.

I preferred Rogue One to Force Awakens.

Looking forward to repeated viewings to see how it holds up.

I might be a bit too jaded. I think only ANH and Empire stand up to repeated viewings. Even TFA is just a good movie in the series...not a stellar movie. Not a classic. It was just better than the prequels and probably a little better than Jedi.

I think we'll all forget about Rogue One in no time, but not for how bad it is, nor will most of us remember it for how good it is. I just don't think it'll be all that memorable. There's nobody left to carry over or tie into the new series. None of the characters (except cameos) tie into the old series either.

We'll never forget those prequels though, but for all the wrong reasons.

They're my feelings for TFA. But again, to each their own. As Star Wars fans, we are such overly passionate people. We can criticise the smallest things sometimes. And we can blow up things that people who aren't as passionate wouldn't care about. I guess apart from my adoration of the original trilogy, I can't agree with many of my fellow ranchers when it comes to Star Wars.
I'll throw out another controversial statement- I love the special editions of the original trilogy!

Here's the thing.. you're never going to get what you want with the new Star Wars stuff. You've had 30 plus years to fondly remember the originals and to relate to the characters in them.

Rogue One has characters that will never get that sort of connection because they are different in their character types and we won't have additional films to connect with them more.

Star Wars has never been about amazing acting or decent scripts. I don't get why people insist on forgetting that.

TFA was a fun and worthwhile movie. It sets the stage for some hopefully even better Ep 8.

Rogue One had a different feel to it and was unique in it's content and direction I felt. The energy towards the end felt desperate. It made me think about how I'd reconsider the beginning of Ep 4. That's kinda cool in my books.

Don't get me wrong.. I love Star Wars.. but they aren't well acted or scripted compared to other movies out there so let's just enjoy them for what they are eh? My partner who ADORES Star Wars (he was an extra in Attack of The Clones in the Senate shots) loved TFA.. and he liked Rogue One too.. just not as much.

Exactly right! The acting and dialogue has never been great. I love the original trilogy yet they are not well acted at all! They're just the 1st science fiction/action/adventure film that we connected to as kids.
I remember just before the prequels arrived, fanboys were frothing at the mouth about seeing Darth Vader as a kid and seeing how he'd turn into Darth Vader from A New Hope. Whatever your opinion on how Lucas brought that to the screen is fine, but people WANTED to see that. AFTER we got that though, those same fanboys said they never originally wanted to see that! You cannot please everyone. Fans have made these movies up in their heads since they were young. Maybe that's the reason TFA has gotten such excitement- nobody really thought post Return of the Jedi there'd be many stories to tell. I did though, and it didn't involve people like Rey or Finn and certainly not Kylo.

I've said much the same on numerous occasions. If anything, they were the first movies to have an entire toy range connected. That's probably the biggest thing to set the first movie apart from every other action scifi before it. A lot of us saw Star Wars (ANH) when it first came out. It was a big deal then and it stayed in our hearts. And we got to play with those characters at home. But there are better stories and better movies out there. It's just that the franchise has a huge sentimental factor attached to it. One thing Rich Evans mentions in the Red Letter Media review of Rogue One that's entirely true is that the Star Wars universe is actually very limited. It's why everything outside of the OT is met with such mixed feelings. There's never an overwhelming consensus. It's difficult to expand on and satisfy every one.

on a side note a friend of mine was in the PT too. She played Queen Breha Organa. I happened to see her action figure in Toyworld a few years back and bought it. I doubt it'll ever be a collector's item.

Does anyone else think that Luke went off to live in hibernation after his student (Ben) turned to the darkside? Cos no one would see that coming.

Bit LTTP but I thought TFA successfully did the job it had to do, which was to not suck. I am in no way a Star Wars fan; I get bored watching the the old movies but I at least agree that the prequels are just woeful.

Meanwhile Rogue One was the first time I've been in a cinema where the audience applauded at the end. Being able to combine modern production values with the old school Star Wars era was a nice thing imo... I could see why Star Wars fans (not all, it appears) would get hard over it. Though Ip Man was completely unnecessary.

Rogue One should have been a multi-part mini series not a movie. This way they can focus on character development. Nobody gave a fuck who anyone was and when they died, you didn't cry.
Star Wars is a space opera. The new movies are just generic sci-fi wr movies. That's the difference between Lucas era stuff and these new ones. The new ones are made by fans, and you can tell because they forget about important stuff like balancing out the powers of the people so that they are not gods that can do no wrong (even yoda died in OT) and giving them a realistic motivation for doing what they do. (in rogue one the main character suddenly becomes a leader without anything in between to show us a change in her attitude.

Characters are important. You have to like and give a shit about them and also see where those characters are coming from and you have to put in drama to get audience to understand what they are thinking when they are not fighting.

I hope we don't get too many star wars movies and instead they just do mini-series like the equivalent of the OVA in anime.
I think a Game of Thrones type thing with Jabba the Hut would be a cool tv series. All the rival gang are competing with him and we see what his life is like trying to track down Han Solo to get his money. We should be allowed to see the softer side to Jaba the Hut who is pretty much the hero of star wars OT. (without space rogues like Han Solo and Jabba, would the jedi have been able to escape the empire by making friends with the smuggler? think about it)
Unlike other star wars materiel aliens are the heroes this time. And it has more dark humour. Nobody takes care of the poor guys and the Huts give them jobs. If the Huts die, there would be chaos in the underworld and everyone would suffer. I think Lucas could have made a great series out of this before disney bought the IP. The Empire's strict laws against alcohol, porn, guns, death sticks keep his empire afloat. So Jabba became a necessary evil to keep people calm in stressful uncertain times. Once in a while when a high status person wanted someone dead they would come to jabba to do assasination for bonus money. This is where Boba Fett comes in. (we all know he is considered one of the coolest characters - this would add some detail to the character. His unconvention tactics and batman-style gear lets him get past security to kill the target and these form whole episodes where you see what it is like to kill people from the point of view of Boba Fett)

I think if you have too many EPIC WAR movies it dilutes the impact of main series war movies.
The main series involves the largest battles, and in between those big events are the little ones.
