help - visiting Melbourne

Post by jizzlobber »

My wife and I will be flying to Melbourne at the end of the month for 3 nights but we don't know what to do there or where to stay.

Should we look for accommodation near the CBD?
And what should we do there?

We will have to keep costs down as I recently lost my job.

Any tips Melbourne Ranch?

Heaps of good places at decent rates in the CBD. Avoid Southbank and Docklands.

What to do - depends on your interests.

Probably just sight seeing during the day, maybe catch some live music and have a drink after.

Thanks... we'll look at the CBD area for accommodation.

the Old Melbourne Gaol
Aquarium
Eureka Skydeck
the free Movie in the Park on the 27/02 in the evening "Whale Rider" (so romance)
The Greek Festival on Lonsdale St 27th-28th - that should be an awesome food experience. Greek food is fantastic.
Japanese Summer Festival on the 28th - not sure if it's food too.
the generally moderate weather (I say moderate...it's never something you'd bet on in advance)
the ace food
The Ultimate Flying Fox that spans across five skyscapers, ok I made up the flying fox because I really want that,

I can't think of much else.

Oh, of course I can. Sth Melbourne Market Dim Sims. Not a joke.

Whenever I have my Melbourne clients contact me for my adult services, I always charge them my accommodation fees also. :)

Thus, I have now stayed in all of Melbourne's top 5 star hotels, and the best by far is the Langham in Southbank. I suggest you request a club room, for a room overlooking the yarra river as well as club room access (free breakfast, free afternoon tea, free evening canapes and alcohol, etc).

The Langham also has by far the absolute best dinner buffet in the country (last time I was there, I was eating freshly grilled lobster in garlic butter sauce).

And WTF at Candy Arse advising you to stay away from Southbank? :?

Southbank is awesome!

You've got Crown Casino (which actually has a pretty decent food court that's practically open 24/7) and also the South Melbourne markets for some absolutely delicious food.

And to top it off, you are literally a 5 minute walk over the bridge from Southbank...and you're smack right in the heart of the Melbourne CBD.

You may have missed the part where he said he wants to keep costs down.

And the part where the Langham hotel sent people to hospital with salmonella poisoning last year.

I enjoy staying at the Grand Hotel MGallery when I go to Melbourne as it's in a good location (close to Etithad, southbank, cbd) and if you look around u can often find it going for really good rates on expedia etc for a 5 star hotel. Everytime I go to Melbourne I always hit up the arcade in Crown Casino plaza as we just don't have anything like that in Adelaide anymore so I enjoy it.

Federation Square always seems to have stuff on whenever I pass by. Mind you I just checked the 'Fed Cam'...

Riveting.

Anyway that area is a nice sight-seeing walk. Fed Square along the Yarra to the sporting precinct (MCG, ANZ Stadium, Melbourne Park). Given you like your sport if there's something on at the MCG when you're down I'd recommend going.

I love Southbank, but he's trying to save some money and there are stacks of bargains in the CBD so you can save on accommodation and tram it to Southbank or even walk depending on where your hotel is.

You can't beat the $12:95 dinner at selected crown resteraunts.

Mrs and I frequent there often and find it great value for money.
