In regards to what?

I think you laughed when I picked Brisbane to place third two years ago.

The only decent pick you're capable of these days is QLD winning Origin. At club level it's pretty much if you think it's going to happen, the opposite will occur

I'm sorry Candy, there's just no room in the 8 for club minnows Canberra.

Raiders are more likely to be top 4 than Broncos. At the end of the day anything can happen, but Broncos side has gotten weaker the last 2 seasons.

Broncos strengths:
Winger / Fullback - A gun back 3 in similar strength to Panthers. Ball playing fullback, winger with power and a winger with speed and finishing ability. This makes them a threat from anywhere on the field

Milford - The guy is one of the most dangerous players in the game. Defences need to pay special attention to him and that creates opportunities for those around him

Big game experience - The majority of the team are grand finalists or international and/or origin players.

The draw - no team gets an easier draw than the Broncos who have the most consistent turnarounds and leg ups from the refs

Broncos weaknesses:
Centres - While they aren't horrible. They aren't nearly as good as in years gone past. Roberts was a pretty massive flop in 2016 and Kahu is solid at best. They just don't have the same star and strike power they used to have

Hunt - He has been on a steady decline since Wayne Bennett arrived. Anthony Griffin left him as one of the best young halves in the game in 2014. He started off the year well. But as the season went on he became too much a product of Bennett. He took a gun ball running half and tried to turn him into a Jamie Soward style half... being able to control a game with his boot. Hunt simply doesn't possess the vision or ability to control a game with his kicking alone. When games got close he couldn't handle the pressure either... he just doesn't have the skillset of a half you could build a team around. No kicking game. No vision. Poor under pressure. Can't even kick a field goal.

I think the forward pack could go either way. Parker is a huge loss and the Broncos pack never really dominated in 2016 either. It's more a pack of workers who are reliable and do their job well. But I think they would be in the bottom half of packs. They are unlikely to lose a game and will not get dominated often. But they won't win a game and dominate another pack either.

A few Bronco legends eviscerated Wayne Bennett recently, basically saying he's past it and should retire.

Willie Carne went in hard, saying he learned more from players he played with and against than he ever did from Bennett's coaching

I suppose it's easy to coach a team to the finals when you've never had to worry about a salary cap.

Parker IS a big loss, and I think the loss can only be lessened by Gillett.

But other than that you boys are right, we are the club you all aspire to be. The big guns, the empire. It's unfortunate we have to slum it with a bunch of unprofitable NSW clubs that couldn't organise a root in a brothel. If I were NRL CEO, I'd wipe all the NSW teams out and start again.

Being the team with the friendliest draw and no salary cap each year would be great, but not when the most recognisable thing they've done in 10 years is drop a premiership

I'm looking forward to the Raiders v Panthers GF this year mx

...and to be fair it would be great if our teams got help from the NRL winning finals games, refer Broncos v Titans 2016.

Edrick Lee signs with Cronulla, Shaun Fensom signs with the Cowboys.

These things happen when you are a club that actually adheres to the salary cap.

Look, let's just hope the refs do their job in the sharks/broncos opener. We can't let a minnow club such as the sharks get any more headlines, especially at the expense of the people's/man's team.

I don't think the NRL Boncos need the refs to get them over the line for that one - the Sharks are taking a dip this season.

Yep should be a cracking game. I just pray our 7s dont play as shit as the Broncos one did.

Would be sad if somone lets him off the hook.

You're just jealous the Sharks have a halfback who can catch.

Keiran Foran to the NRL Boncos in 2018?

Perks of not worrying about the salary cap!

The top 25 NRL players by statistical measure.

Raiders - 5 players
Boncos - 1 player

Minnows indeed

Panthers got 2 in there, but it's not very accurate since I would rate those 2 players behind our actual best and most important player. Matt Moylan.

I think the top 10 looks pretty fucking good though. 11th onwards and it's very debatable IMO.

Gotta love that 10-5 penalty count.

Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

Ben Hunt was terrible last night. Broncos got so lucky at the end of sets with random bounces and ricochets from seriously horrible kicks and terrible game management.

Dragons paid $1m a season for the most incomplete 7 in the competition. He was the worst half on the field in a winning team that had all the luck, penalties, field position and possession.

And theres no way Dragons can do a better job with him than Bennett. Both teams did show promising signs though. Some good shape in attack. Round 1 meant a lot of things were rusty and didn't quiet work. But you can see them polishing those plays in the next month.

Dragons badly missed Holmes and Barba. Beale was poorly positioned at fullback and Edrick Lee was just as bad as he was last year.

Yes, Boyd's beautiful cut-out ball to set up the opener, Milford stepping three big players to score the winner and Oates' finishing perfection were all luck. So was the 10-5 penalty count!

Candy is a league purist, I wonder if he liked what he'd saw of this new bloke called Pangai Junior, he's probably not heard of him before.
