You can all console yourselves with Melbourne’s dominant win. No one likes Canterbury here anyway. Or maybe you all like Melbourne less.

I think we're just waiting for the announcement that Melbourne are ten million over the cap.

I had imagined some bloke with death in his eyes going on a rampage but the reality is Lodge is fucked up on some kind of substance, loosely throwing punches and staggering everywhere. You could push him over.
...

And let's not blame the drugs. All drugs and alcohol do is strip away inhibitions. You learn more about a person's actual self when they're messy than you do when they're straight and behaving. I've been around people off their nut on all manner of drug and alcohol cocktails plenty of times. None of them got violent or threatened death to people. Lodge also has a conviction for assaulting a woman. He's a nasty piece of work.
Ahh yes and no. I know exactly what you're saying and I do somewhat agree, but I just don't agree that someone stripped of their inhibitions is their "actual self". It's not. Just because someone may entirely lack empathy whilst wasted doesn't mean that they don't have such feelings when sober, so I don't agree that it's a better account of who they actually are. I haven't mixed sleeping pills with alcohol, but I'm curious if it's similar to just getting hammered whilst exhausted, because that's a fucked combination. It's to the point that I make sure I have a nap before a big night because I know it's not a good type of drunk.

I'm not blaming the drugs/alcohol but when these incidents happen under the same circumstances there is a clear pathway to avoiding the problems - stay off the substances. When someone does these things sober, well that's a problem on another level.
Peppermint Lounge wrote:Russell Packer is an arsehole too but he didn't violently invade someone's home, tear up the joint and terrorise a mother and child either. And don't forget it was a pack of armed cops who stopped Lodge from nearly killing someone, not Lodge himself. Madmya on another hiding to nothing here.
Please. Packer almost killed someone whilst you're arguing Lodge may have also nearly killed someone.

Candy Arse wrote:Matt Johns' assessment of the child abusing, woman-bashing cheap-shot Boncos -
“They were awful,” was Johns’ blunt assessment in the immediate aftermath.

“It’s been a tough week for the Broncos and it is only round one but they really struggle in the creative positions.

“They don’t have a dominant half.

“The missing of Ash Taylor is disastrous for that club because Milford’s a runner and Nikorima is a clever player, he’s a skilful player, but he’s not a dominant half.

“I’m sorry but from what they showed tonight I just can’t see them getting near the eight.

“I know it’s only round one but I look at the creative positions and I just don’t see the players there.”
In my expert opinion he's 100% correct with this assessment. They're cooked.
Yeah it's hard to disagree with this. I was sad to see Hunt go, and not getting Taylor to replace him really was a disaster. I have no idea why he didn't come back, it's his best chance for a premiership.

Nonetheless we were underdone and will get better. I don't think we'll miss the eight.

Canterbury actually looked good in that game too. Mbye at fullback is a revelation. Who knew? (obviously Dean Pay)

Get on the Dogs to beat the Roosters next week, and Panthers to beat Souths.

Speaking of Panthers, where's mx? Is he dead?

I've seen him posting over at the League Unlimited forums so not dead.

All good, I'll wave the Panther's flag in his absence, but a bit more optimistically

Ah, good! I'd imagine he's pretty furious with the Panthers right about now, with the players that have left and the talk of the players that are going to leave.

Hook is terrible. I used to think he got hard done by at the Broncos but his stint at the Panthers has been shocking. Not that Gould has helped him but still.

Playmakers currently in the NRL who were either in the Broncos system or overlooked by their scouts:

JOHNATHAN THURSTON

Sunnybank junior told by Broncos scouts at 17 he was “too skinny” to make it. Now a Cowboys champion and future Immortal.

BRODIE CROFT

Was a member of Brisbane’s development squad. Picked up by the Storm after being axed at age 15.

COOPER CRONK

Brisbane product, signed by Storm scouts for $5000 and placed at Norths Devils.

BEN HUNT

Brisbane’s No. 1 halfback last year but the Broncos opted not to compete with the Dragons’ $1 million-a-season offer.

ASHLEY TAYLOR

Reluctantly released by Wayne Bennett to start his career at the Titans as he was stuck behind Hunt and Anthony Milford.

MOSES MBYE

Rejected by Broncos scouts while playing at Noosa. Now in Queensland’s Emerging Origin system and playing at Canterbury.

CODY WALKER

Languished in the Intrust Super Cup for years with Easts Tigers. Won the player of the year award in 2013. Broncos tried to poach him from Souths last year but failed.

RYLEY JACKS

Outstanding in the Intrust Super Cup for the past three years. Never attracted an offer from Brisbane. Has since won an NRL debut at the Storm.

CAMERON MUNSTER

Rejected by Broncos scouts as a teenager after watching him at a development carnival in 2013. Now a State of Origin star at the Storm.

DALY CHERRY-EVANS

Played juniors with Broncos feeder-club Redcliffe but was never signed. Snapped up by Manly. Now a premiership winner and one of the best halfbacks in the code.

KALYN PONGA

Held a Broncos scholarship in 2013 before Cowboys got under their guard to poach him. Brisbane tried to lure him back last season but he signed a big-money deal with Newcastle.

COREY NORMAN

Groomed to be the next Darren Lockyer but quit the Broncos in 2013 to sign with Parramatta.

There are questions to be answered by someone, but this is a bit of an overreaction. That list is practically every half from QLD in the NRL, and that's because the Broncos get their fingers on everyone from a young age. The reality is you can't have everyone, particularly in this salary cap era. We've been caught with our pants down on this occasion. I'd like to think lessons were learnt regarding JT. The Bulldogs chose Brent Sherwin over JT.

That's because we're the only club willing to help him. Everyone is so concerned about the past but we're the only ones looking out for his future. We're the progressive club.

Good to know "rehabilitation" at the Broncos means committing crimes and getting away with them
