Wicks was a drug charge, not assault one like Lodge or Packer.

Madmya wrote:You've reached that conclusion based on the CCTV footage? I'm curious as to what you thought must have happened before this footage was leaked. I had imagined some bloke with death in his eyes going on a rampage but the reality is Lodge is fucked up on some kind of substance, loosely throwing punches and staggering everywhere. You could push him over.
Lodge is a big man. Elite athlete, 6'3" and 110 odd kgs. No average dad is going to push Lodge over no matter what mess he's in. What I saw was Lodge being pathetic, dumping his whole weight on this poor bloke who's just trying to urge him out of his building with minimal conflict before Lodge lets rip. Bad enough. We know what he did when he then forced himself back into the family's home.

And let's not blame the drugs. All drugs and alcohol do is strip away inhibitions. You learn more about a person's actual self when they're messy than you do when they're straight and behaving. I've been around people off their nut on all manner of drug and alcohol cocktails plenty of times. None of them got violent or threatened death to people. Lodge also has a conviction for assaulting a woman. He's a nasty piece of work. I'd be very disappointed if Essendon or Melbourne recruited someone with this kind of history. I'm sure there are plenty of pissed off Broncos fans.

Russell Packer is an arsehole too but he didn't violently invade someone's home, tear up the joint and terrorise a mother and child either. And don't forget it was a pack of armed cops who stopped Lodge from nearly killing someone, not Lodge himself. Madmya on another hiding to nothing here.

The best part about this thread is Madmya desperately trying to downplay this crime because he plays for his team.

Matt Johns' assessment of the child abusing, woman-bashing cheap-shot Boncos -
“They were awful,” was Johns’ blunt assessment in the immediate aftermath.

“It’s been a tough week for the Broncos and it is only round one but they really struggle in the creative positions.

“They don’t have a dominant half.

“The missing of Ash Taylor is disastrous for that club because Milford’s a runner and Nikorima is a clever player, he’s a skilful player, but he’s not a dominant half.

“I’m sorry but from what they showed tonight I just can’t see them getting near the eight.

“I know it’s only round one but I look at the creative positions and I just don’t see the players there.”
In my expert opinion he's 100% correct with this assessment. They're cooked.

Wait, he's not entirely correct - Nikorima is, in fact, fucking awful and showed it last night.

Looks like the Boncos who got totally humiliated in the finals last year are back on deck for 2018.

This bloke will be pleased. Dumps Brisbane for the Dragons and is already a winner.

Goodbye, Brisbane Broncos: Why Matt Lodge made a loyal NRL fan disown his team

John Martin

Published on Feb. 27, 2018

As a long-time fan of the Brisbane Broncos, there were plenty of times where I and others were asked to play the “loyal solider” when it appeared we were under attack from all sides.

The example that immediately springs to mind was the Super League war. That was strike one for me.

My club were front and centre in leading the push for the breakaway competition. The fabric of the game of rugby league was being torn apart and the Brisbane Broncos had the most blood on their hands.

The second “strike” was the signing of Ben Barba.

I found it tough to stomach that my club would actively pursue a player with the baggage Ben Barba brought with him.

I despised the club for signing Barba. I found it hard to watch the team. They put winning ahead of club values and integrity.

I mulled over walking away there and then and regret the fact I didn’t.

Fast forward to November 2017, and NRL CEO Todd Greenberg green lights Matthew Lodge’s return.

I am floored. If there was ever a moment when a backbone was needed by the leader of the NRL, it was now.

I could not have been more wrong. Todd Greenberg, as he did with the Ben Barba incident when he was at Canterbury, handled this issue poorly.

Jessica O’Halloran, journalist for The Daily Telegraph, opens with the following in her article on the situation.

“There is a young boy in the United States who still has night terrors because NRL player Matthew Lodge tore apart his family’s apartment.

“Mum, I’m too young to die,” the then nine-year-old said after Lodge punched a hole through the bathroom door he was hiding behind with his mother.

“A US judge ordered Lodge to pay $1.6 million damages for that night when he repeatedly punched the little boy’s father in the head.”

Read it again. If you don’t feel that knot in your stomach, read it again. And again. And again.

An innocent family, with a young boy, has been caught in the cross-fire this time of a want-to-be thug who is paid to play rugby league (that’s right Matthew, you’re a want-to-be thug).

I walked away from the Brisbane Broncos as a fan once they saw it appropriate to sign Matthew Lodge.

This was the third strike for me, the loyal fan. I will not cop it any more or invest my time, emotion and money in supporting the Brisbane Broncos. I am done.

In rare instances in sport, winning in my opinion is not everything.

Unconditional loyalty in my life is limited two things: my family and my country.

Everything else is conditional and earned.

Thank you for the memories to the Brisbane Broncos club, and the Queensland Maroons.

I walk away from both teams happy with my decision and knowing that the time is now right to move on and start a new chapter as a rugby league fan.

To navigate this next journey with my wife and two kids by my side as fans of the Red V.

All the best.

Stats reveal Milford to be a total bust since joining the Boncos.

It's all falling apart

Cool - let's allow clearly forward passes to lead to game-winning tries.

We got screwed.
