Scryed you fuckers. It's awesome.

Also, what is it with chicks and Bleach? My girlfriend is so far into it its not funny and my best mate's girlfriend's cousin is also into it.

I also think I need to get my torrents happening too. Beck sounds awesome.

It was my girlfriend that got me into Bleach as well. The ladies go nuts for Renji.

I stopped watching bleach after I was told of there being loads of filler eps to pad the series due to the anime having caught up to the manga.

It's best to watch a bunch of shows at once (usually 2-3 at a time) so you don't end up waiting ages for the subbers to finish. Also I find myself preffing to use irc instead of torrents. If there is nobody around to seed or if you've got a low ratio, you are fucked.

Speaking of otaku anime nerd culture:

here is a true story of a gundam fan in the news:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/14072006/323/j" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... dream.html

...planned to go into space dressed up/cosplay as Char Aznable from the Universal Century Mobile Suit Gundam series. Pretty cool! If only they had made him a mobile suit and everything.

but:

http://asia.news.yahoo.com/060821/kyodo/d8jksfr80.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
^
the nerd isn't healthy and fit enough to go. heh MAybe in the future when scientists build robot exoskeletons to replace the flesh (ie ghost in the shell?) Reminds me of that simpsons episode where mr burns had to have that robot body and brain in a jar to replace his real one.

Black Lagoon
^
that is worth seeing. My taste kicks arse so trust me. info here

Just finished the anime of Berserk. Violent. Bloody. Dark. And kinda sorta reminds me of lodoss war with its supernatural theme but with characters that are more interesting and deep. I am going to dl the manga now since I am told the anime pales in comparison.

Also if you haven't seen Gundam Seed yet, (and you liked the the original mobile suit gundam 079) I think that is worth seeing. (just ignore Seed Destiny, the sequel) Essentially it is the original MSG story (the original is like the blue print for the events in this) but dressed up in more modern looks and mecha design for a newer generation of fan. (no 70s porno-moustached pilots for one)

I am actually going to start to watch FMA properly now, (in between finishing the epic Legend of the Galactic Heroes) since everyone keeps saying it is awesome, so I will be occupied with that for a while. I skipped this.

Almost forgot another one: I recommend you read/watch the anime and manga Hajime No Ippo (AKA Fighting Spirit)

It's a boxing anime that is really good. After I am finished with others I plan on watching/reading the anime/manga of it. Don't know if there is a local madman release of this title though..

Fan site with info on this here:
http://www.dynamiteglove.com/intro.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The majority have voted this a "masterpiece" on ANN:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... hp?id=1139

I heard the game that treasure made was pretty good too. (looked like a punch out clone)

Right now I'm attempting to read 31 volumes worth of Berserk manga :D ..so I'm going to be busy for anime/manga for a good while.

Just finished watching Genshiken. It was pretty good, just a shame it was so short. I am now watching the rest of Eureka 7 before moving on to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - it looks freaking weird from the first episode but interesting. Thanks for all the recommendations GameHED - I'll go for Rurouni Kenishin next.

my recommended order of watching it:
1. TV series (95 eps total)

2. 4 part OVA "Trust and Betrayal" (received "Masterpiece" rating of 1012 votes. This is the prequel to the tv series where you see Kenshin as a government assasin in his early days. "Trust" is the first half and "Betrayal" the second half. This is the high point of kenshin but prepare for a much darker tone and more violence than the tv series. Lots of surprise twists and very smooth animation)

3. "Reflections" OVA (sequel to tv series. Pretty depressing ending though..)

And if you liked the above, then you might want to see the Kenshin movie. Takes place in the timeline sometime during the tv series. But this doesn't really reach the heights of the OVA imo.

My fucking god Beck was the most awesome thing I've seen in a LONG time. It reminds me of the first time I saw ID and knew it was something special.

It was so sad to have it end. I really hope they make a second set.

Onto Black Lagoon next I suppose. I watched the first episode and its pretty awesome.

BTW if you want to get scanlated manga:
come to:
geeksunited.de.eu.irchighway.net

channel #lurk

You can download the SnoopyCool translation (highest quality out of the groups so far) of Hajime No Ippo mangas up to about volume 70 (!!). Check packlist number on the website to see the list.

Pretty much started reading this now. (along with 20th century boys and Berserk)

Sometimes it's better to watch anime first though: this way if the anime isn't doesn't live up to the hype of the manga or just isn't as good for whatever reason, you don't have to worry about disapointment. (plus the anime sometimes stops or skips whole things from the manga it is based on or changes the order of events) Going from crap to good, is sometimes easier on people than going good to crap..

finally eps 43-50 are finished. (not the unofficial nanashi subs, these are the real good ones)

The torrent has only been up for 7-8 hours though so the speed is shit!
163 seeds and 500 leechers.
If you've you've already downloaded from irc could you dl the torrent and seed? thx

Go download it.

Finished watching Blue Gender. It's generic mecha anime about bugs taking over earth and humans fighting bugs to take back earth ie very much like genesis climber mospeada, especially how the alien bugs gradually "evolve" over time and how the humans even though they are armed with cool looking weapons and have ranged attacks and the aliens use crappy melee attacks and move slow, we somehow are too weak to beat them because they are so numerous.

I'm begining now on Yuyu Hakusho. This is a good bleach alternative if you haven't seen it. Very similar themes where there the main character plays a "Spirit Detective" and must fight people possessed by demons (which like the spirits in bleach are invisible to normal people of course) from interfering with the human world. The main character is a school kid who dies saving a little kid from a car that is about to hit him by sacrificing himself so the little kid doesn't get hit, dies, gets granted a second chance to come back to life, and then is resuscitated as a human but this time he possesses powers to sense the evil spirits. Anyway essentially its a fighting anime with supernatural themes and DBZ-like special moves. It might be worth checking out if you're into that kinda stuff.

Here's the wiki which helps explain the spirit worlds, characters, demon rankings and story and contains some trivia. (looks like the makers have a thing for the street fighter games. hehe)

Yep best anime ever, I've been trying to pimp it to everyone for some time now (I used an avatar from it for the entire life of games-ranch till yesterday).. Cannot freakin wait for the next season.

At the moment Death Note is astoundingly good, check it out Ekin.

Actually my friend identified your avatar for me, hes a huge fan, he loves the music as well. :)

After watching the phoenix wright parody on youtube and listening to God Knows... (its been on repeat for so long) i had to check it out.

I just knew it was quality after the first episode.

Funniest bit has to be Haruhi fly kicking that guy. OMFG i cracked up laughing, it was so unexpected. :D

Mikuru is too cute and helpless.

I like how it seems so light hearted but then you realise it has these heavy themes behind the story.

I did some research and it seems like season 2 is coming out fall 2007 but i've also read the team behind haruhi are split up working on different projects and 2008 is more likely. :(
I doubt they will wait that late considering how huge the series is now.

A recent survey puts it at the 4th most popular anime in Japan.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=9652" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also this guy's head is too far up his own arse to appreciate Haruhi.

I know they are working on Kannon at the moment, but I heard they will make something else after that and before haruhi s2.

It seems strange to wait so long to do a sequel for such a popular anime, I read someplace the DVD sold out in pre orders too.

And I agree with your description of the last link :P

Been watching Armored Trooper Votoms lately. Will start on MOHS soon.

Some news for Macross fans:

There is a new mecha anime called KISS DUM with eureka 7 style looking characters in it. Don't ask me what its about but the interesting thing is this will be the test to see what kind of an audience they will aim the new upcoming macross tv series (there will be one for the 25th anniversary) at, depending on how this does.

Some mecha designs can be found at the site:
http://www.kissdum.com/mecha.html#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not much info is available but the guy behind the mecha in macross and e7 is involved. These kind of have that same influence. The main cockpit of that fighter jet/drone detaches and turns into what looks like a Glaug from macross but at smaller size. And the chicken-legged glaug wannabe then can dock with other vehicles. Think of the core fighter from gundam but with more than one thing it can be combined with.

Some info about this here on MWB.

The designs do look less real-world than the kind of thing you would see and seem to go for a animecolored appearance to them which is typical of stuff like gundam seed. (mecha always looked a little oversaturated with colours in these new shows to be honest: they should blend in with the enviornment, not stick out)

Hopefully this has a decent story and some interesting characters. Will be on the look out for this. No garuantee it won't suck though..:D
I think what is going to happen is there might be an attempt to try to ressurrect some of the old series from the real robot genre of anime back in the 80s (the golden age of the robot genre?) with shows like the new votoms and macross which might help them steal some attention from the gundam franchise. (you could think of that as a national icon to the japanese. :D)

More info on the new upcoming mecha anime Engage Planet Kissdum:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB4L6493z-A" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

links to a trailer of the series. The action looks very dramatic and fast paced but weighed down with the realism as you would expect from a realistic mecha show. The trailer shows how the capsule (like the core fighter of the old school gundam worked) is ejected and used as a vehicle for hovering on the ground as it transforms upon descent to the surface before thrusting at the last moment to break the fall.

Also shown is the underwater vehicle with claws and arms that extend from it. (reminds me of the octos in macross zero) A lot of the design seems to mix macross zero, (yf19 mixed with the vf0) gundam (the ejectable core used as another vehicle) and outlaw star. (arms and claws on vehicles used by the pirates in that series to grapple onto the hull of a ship to steal cargo)

Looks pretty interesting. Doesn't show much of the characters but is a smoothly animated intro. If you've wondered what an Ed-209 from robocop would look like if it had a mecha show based on it, this looks to be the one. ...that is if the ed209 could spam you with missile swarms instead of those crappy rockets in the movie.

And if there are any subbing groups out there:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoHIddm4bg0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
...could somone sub these votoms ovas in eng for me please (hopefully generate some interest in it so people know what they missed)... so desperate to see them after watching the tv series...

Just finished watching the first half of Black Lagoon. This is my second attempt at watching the series (I'm unemployed now so I have tonnes of time) and it isn't that bad. The animation is slick and Revy looks hot. The only problem is that there is no overall guiding story theme to the series, just a bunch of short, 3 episode arcs. Also, the series is virtually an advertisement for smoking and guns (see the intro). That's fine, I have gotten used to it in series like Cowboy Bebop. However, living in Japan for 4 years I'm sick of the way they glorify smoking here - the young ones here don't see to get the fact that it makes them look like tools *end rant* Anyway, not a bad series. Not the best but worth a download. Soon to be watching Death Note.
