After all these years I finally put him on ignore a few months ago. My forum experience has increased greatly.

I have also noticed this pattern. And increased enjoyment in my forum experience following adding GameHED to my ignore list.

Candy is hiding from nintendo IMO. I think it was revenge for bullying rocco.

Nintendo is even going after all the celebrities for selling bootleg products.
also there is a big push by feminists to get people to stop acting competitive which is a masculine behavior which they blame for society being too dangerous for women. This is the future of all game boards so now they have turned to meeting in secret. I tried to explain this to lestat. People will try to dox you if you reveal too much information in public forums, social media, or casual conversation to get you fired for saying non-politically correct things. There is a massive purge on youtube for not going with the narrative. (alex jones was the first and all the others are next)
When you talk shit about EA? they ban you from official boards. If you are upset that a wargame is historically incorrect? An army of SJW will follow you and harass you on the street and in cyberspace to convince you that you are wrong. "Women won WWII! And there were no men back then!! Listen and believe. Don't trust veterans who were actually around back then! They are nazis who secretly wanted germans to win but one-armed disabled female soldiers saved the world from the white man having their way. Kingdom Come is also BS and lack of magic elves and dragons in history is racist. Trump is censoring the games to stop us learning the past."

Agreed. I feel like we gave that little cunt Rocco and Mr Lost His Marbles Years Ago GameHED far too much rope.

I'll poke my head in every now and then but admittedly I'm a bit over forums etc. I'll flip through reddit mostly but even that has lost its sheen.

Way too many good people have left while GameHED has been allowed to shit all over the place in every. single. thread. And Rocco. Fuck me.

This used to be my most-visited website and where I got most of my news. But it's just too hard to find the good stuff with so many people gone and so much irrelevant shit to scroll past.
Currently playing: Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (PC), Far Cry 4 (PC), FIFA 23 (Series X)

Rocco helped a lot with news but he used the same gifs. Over time it got boring. Most of the news this gen is about sequels to existing games and remasters. The most important titles like cyberpunk are hard to come by.

I see streams are the most popular way to discuss games in depth because you can work on something without looking at the screen and hear what the guy is saying about a game while doing something else. What this has done in resulted in more indepth discussion on gaming that used to be done on forums in text format. But today it's in video form with visual aids to assist the person to see what the points are in the author's post. For example whenever I shit on The Witcher 3 I can say it has laggy controls on text or post video showing why it isn't up to standard with tales of games and dark souls by using the footage. Many of the old websites that were the go-to pace for information are no longer relevent anymore (eg giant bomb was one of my fave places but the discussion is not deep enough for me and usually glosss over details) and so what has happened is the specialist gamer has taken over from the general purpose reviewers and critics. Why? Because they know more about a specific series of games and point out the reasons for why something fails or suceeds.
As a result more and more people are going into the specilist places for their coverage instead of the one go-to website with a few guys on it. There is also the danger of being folowed by SJW from one forum to another. (the purpose is to dox you and ring up your boss to hopefully get you fired from work) What if your content is deleted because the mod is a SJW? With video streaming sites like youtube you have more control over what you produce and have the comment section to yourself, not under the moderators control. Just as long as you follow the guidelines. Whereas a forum has too many other people in control of your posts/content. (plus you cannot make money unlike with youtube where streamers can quit their day job because millions of little kids with absentee parents want a role model to look up to and teach them how to beat super metroid in style)

To get forums back to normal you have to keep up to date with tech, (fact of the matter is we are moving to portable play for indie games as this is where they can get noticed by the public) understand the advantage of deep discussion over short remarks like twitter (opinions are like assholes, tell us the facts about things which give us reason to chek out a game which is why I go to forums, not to chat about the weather lol) which is more for women, and contribute. (reviews. I shit on games like Mass Effect Andromeda for a reason and whine about the death of local co-op for a reason: Street Fighter V ditching arcade mode on launch is a sign of laziness)

You can make money being informative and this is the draw of places like youtube. Perhaps offer rewards for quality posting with information?
The age of chatting to people while playing online has meant nobody read text on forums anymore. It's still the best for long form posting but it take more effort to read than to lie back on a couch or in bed and hear someone say stuff on a video with your eyes closed.
Forums started to lose their appeal around about the death of the local co-op game genre. Borderlands the Hanbdsome colection lets you play in 4 player co-op splitscreen. That is amazing. When game like that disappeared people starte to become antisocial and turn to specialist sites. Meaning everyone has isolated themselves. It's because around about the time of lootboxes, people became narcissistic. Older games made you rely on assistance from another human player not on buying more power with realworld money. That means everyone can afford to act like an asshole to each other not friendly.

The death of locl co-op and splitscreen gaming = antisocial assholes who cheat to win by buying lootboxes to become powerful which in turn makes publishers more greedy, which cause them to make shitty games, which leads to less interestin shit to talk about each year on forums, which causes you all to get bored nad leave the hobby because you already know what future games will play like before they are out due to publishers making the same shit every year with prettier wrapping. That is what the death of the splitscreen game has done to you. You slowly became too cool to hang out with others and now you caused games to be about MMO experience not fun.

Old splitscreen games made people happy:
Nowadays it's less about how your action benefits agroup and more about how you look compared to others because you bought the best dance emotes. Everyone has become too cool to care about the group, making them depressed and isolated.
we have lost that sense of community of the old days thanks to MMO gaming infecting all the game genres.
The ability to just chat online also killed forums because text requires your eyes to look at the screen. We are becoming dumbed down. Kids learn more by watching so I don't see the streamer going away anytime soon even if an ad pops up. The money from informing by showing through how-to guides beats searching text. Finding secrets is a lot easier in video than explaining with words.

Seriously GameHED, you are pure thread poison. Nobody wants to post after you do, since even if you're on people's ignore lists, we all just know you've post a big old rant about something that's got jack shit to do with anything discussed in the thread, and it demotivates people from posting at all.

I asked GH to tone it down, but yeah with the low frequency of posting on the board these days, he's still just choking all the threads. 1 month timeout instated.

As much as I can't stand the guy, I actually don't want him banned. I just wish he was capable of being concise and/or relevant on the odd occasion.

Same, he's been a member for a long time, I tried reaching out to him to get him to understand the gravity of the situation, he can be a good poster. It just seems like he's gotten much more worse over time. I hope the time away helps him. Outside of moderating his posts 24/7 the forum doesn't have any other tools to help contain his spam posting.
