What music are you listening to at the mo bro?
I'm listening to Strange Overtones by David Byrne and Brian Eno, available for free at everythingthathappens.com.
The album is released today, it should be solid if that song's any indication. I also recently found out Eno played keyboards on a french Belinda Carlisle album last year ("Voila", if anyone's game). What a champion.

I didn't mind it, but I found it rather disposable. Much better than Push the Button of course.Twiztid Elf wrote:I was never a fan of Exit Planet Dust or Dig Your Own Hole, but damn this is hitting me hard:
If you haven't already, do make sure you check out Surrender and Come With Us. Come With Us especially is criminally underrated.
As for me, I've been giving Bloc Party's new one Intimacy a few listens lately. Seems pretty good, although not up to the stellar standard of lead single Mercury.

I've always liked Electronica/Trance/Techno/what ever it's called, but I've never really known anyone really into it to be able to get a pathway into it.
I used to listen to a bit on 4ZZZ, but I always missed the back announce, so I never knew who the artists were.
I'm really keen for more suggestions of the cream of the crop. I really like stuff that is more epic in length, 6-10 minute pieces that start very basic then build up and up to a climax.
I'm getting Anjunabeats now. Is it any good? Folks seem to say nice stuff about it.

Ok, I'll have a go. This will be from more of an indie/alternative scenester's perspective, so won't be as underground as some of the real experts here - and it will be more or less club and IDM tunes, so none of the rave genres will be covered. I'll just give you a bunch of youtube vids and then you can go from there. Most of these will no doubt be artists you've already heard of - but songs you may not.Twiztid Elf wrote:I've always liked Electronica/Trance/Techno/what ever it's called, but I've never really known anyone really into it to be able to get a pathway into it.

PNAU - Embrace (you've no doubt heard this lately if you listen to the radio at all) Shit, that'll do for now - it's actually quite hard as I'm not at home so I can't look through my music collection for reminders. Hopefully someone who really knows what they're talking about will come in and help out

Tex Perkins and his Ladyboys - No. 1's and No. 2's.
Covers of 70's and 80's AOR songs done in a 'lounge on crack' style by Tex.
Highlight for me is the duet with Jimmy Barnes (singing falsetto) on the Rose Royce classic 'You Make Me Feel Brand New" - the whole thing is a giant pisstake.
Farking gold.
The Infomercial.
I'm Not In Love (orig. By 10CC) - the first single

First guitar solo is overlayed with the mario coin noise sounding rapidly and the second guitar solo IS THE TETRIS THEME!
the album? Gama Bomb - Citizen Brain. Every song is about zombies, videogames, thrash metal or some other 80's nostalgia. Its cheesy, its cheap; but the guitar solos are actually excellent and I just really groove on the entire band's sound.

I realise I am v. late to the party but I am listening to The Mars Volta. They are blowing my mind, I feel the same way as when I first listened to Black Sabbath about 10 years ago. I wish I had listened to my mate who said I should check them out about 5 years ago. Special music.

Yep agreed Sculli, the album's a cracker.Scullibundo wrote:Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy
Holy fucking shit this album is good. Worth the wait. So many tracks I love. One or two meh tracks but on the whole fucking incredible. I think 'Better' might be one of my new GnR favourites of all time.
Love "There was a time" and "IRS" as well.
