Paris-based anti-racism group SOS Racism overnight quoted well-informed sources as saying Materazzi had apparently insluted Zidane with the use of the word "terrorist".

It has come to light just what was said by Italian defender Marco Materazzi prior to the head-butt attack on him by French midfielder Zinedine Zidane.

ITALY'S Marco Materazzi called Zinedine Zidane a "son of a terrorist whore" just before the France captain brutally headbutted him in the World Cup final, Britain's top forensic lip reader says.

UK newspaper The Times hired Jessica Rees, whose skill has had her summoned as an expert witness at criminal trials, to study a tape of Sunday's match in which Zidane received a red card for his seemingly spontaneous assault.

"After an exhaustive study of the match video and with the help of an Italian translator, Rees claimed Materazzi called Zidane 'the son of a terrorist whore' before adding 'so just f--- off' for good measure," it reported.

With that in mind Zidane's attack is not so unforgivable. Perhaps his biggest crime now is landing only a six-hit combo on the disgraced Italian.
