A youtube video is actually just a flash player that streams the movie from youtubes servers. I'm not sure if there is a way to possibly look into your cache and rip the data into something playable on any movie player. there might be a tool someone has written to do that already.

actually i found this.

http://www.itsrishi.com/archives/2006/0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... be-ripper/

mytube is busted but he has info on another site that store/save the video you want to save off youtube.

My boss was happily ripping youtube vids and any other embedded vids using some program that was essentially capturing the screen output. Or that's what he said anyhow.

I'd ask him but he's just moved to another company and I think the last thing he wants me doing is spamming his new address about capturing video. Realistically I want to stay in his good books so I can get poached and move for more money! :)

I just open my cache folder and look for a large .tmp file. Rename it to FLV and VLC will play it, or you can convert it to another format using a free program like Riva FLV Encoder.

http://videodownloader.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is a link to the .flv file in the URL, but the Firefox plugin linked above automatically grabs it for you. Great stuff.

I guess I could move to the mainland for real money one day. I'm kinda setup right where I am so no incentive to raise my stress levels any more than they need to be.

i've got a heaps good idea chaos, you should totally uproot your comfortable and enjoyable life in idyllic and unspoilt tasmania, and move to a filthy city so you can get more money to spend on a higher cost of living!

think about the benefits, seriously

But on the mainland you won't have to worry about the two heads are better than one company policies that are all too common over there!?

Also grab the Riva FLV encoder. That way you can convert the flv into mpg or avi for later editing.
