I caught Superman Returns last week, and I think I'm one of the few people alive who absolutely loved it. I can see the places where it was weak, but frankly I just wasn't inclined to let it get to me. It was such an awesome treat visually and nostalgically.
I'm so looking forward to Pirates though, it's going to fucking rule.

I watched Superman Returns on the weekend. I liked it, apart from the kid. I enjoyed Spacey as Lex and thought the fella playing Supes did a fair job of imitating Reeves. Still doesnt hold a candle to the originals though.
*** SPOILER ***
Clearly the writers discounted the theories discussed in Mallrats regarding Superman getting it on with human women ("like a shotgun straight through her back"). Anyway, didnt Supes and Lois get it on in number 2 when he had given up his powers and become human? If he knocked her up during this time, wouldnt the resultant kid be human?
*** END SPOILER ***
I'll be in for Pirates this week, hopefully Thursday or Friday for me.

Actually, the device used in Superman II was a concentrated blast of Red sunlight. Lara explained what the device was and how it worked quite well.
In theory, Superman's powers would have returned over time as he bathed in the rays of our yellow sun.
**SPOILER**
This would be why Superman and Lois could have sex but he would still pass his Kryptonian DNA onto his child.
Also, I think Singer was trying to make out like Clark was weak as a child, hence the whole glasses scene, and then why Jason no longer needed the puffer after he moved the piano.
Also, Lois would have to have slept with Richard within the same month of sleeping with Superman for them to think the child was Richard's. She is a hussy.
** END SPOILER**

God I can't beleive how many people still bring up that mallrats theory, all my friends did too
I love Superman Returns but the ending was weak to me, however as awhole 2.5 hour movie it was excellent.
Will be seeing Pirates ~3 times over the next week weith different groups of friends because none of them want to make the trip to see it together at one place, ffs!

Superman Returns:
Enjoyed it. Although i felt it was a bit boring having the villain be Lex Luthor. Needed someone that poses a threat to Superman for a face off fight... and for Lex Luthor to be a sidekick.
8.5/10
Can't wait for PotC2. My most anticipated movie this year. Followed by Clerks 2. 2 more fucking days for Pirates

If it's close to the original comics and what fox is currently doing then I'll be really happy. The new fox series proves you don't need to be uber violent to be good, just follow the comics. Also it helps if Peter Laird is your creative consultant and tells you to steer clear of the original cartoon series.
