Saw that on the plane a few hours ago. Apart from the ending when MATT DAMON! is saved it's a great film.

Raid 2

Fuck the first Raid was awesome, so awesome that I'm pretty sure Dredd ripped it off. Raid 2 feels nothing like the first and at 2hrs 30mins really felt like it overstayed it's welcome. There were a few good fight scenes, the deaf girl with the claw hammers and her brother with the baseball bat was one of the most violent fights I've seen since Old Boy, but something just felt wrong. I don't know if the story got too complex, whether all the names were confusing me or whether I just didn't give a shit but 3-4 times I checked how much time was left till the movie ended. Maybe it was just the seat on the plane and those shitty little screens made it an uncomfortable experience and so because of that I will not give this a score as I fear any credibility I have left will be damaged fubar.

The Hateful Eight 70mm Super duper widescreen version

Went in totally blind and knew only that Kurt Russell and Samuel Jackson was in it. Totally not what I expected and one of the few films I seen that I couldn't predict the outcome. Some stellar performances and the 70mm, man, I wish all cinema experiences were in that aspect. This movie is basically Reservoir Dogs Wild West Edition so if that's your cup of tea so is this.

The Hateful Eight. What a brilliant film. I went in not knowing anything apart from the fact it has a bloody 2nd half. Loved every second of it! Ennui Morricone's score is superb, and he even included a few tracks from the film Tarantino copies from- John Carpenter's The Thing! This is basically an updated The Thing, Tarantino style. I'm still yet to see a Tarantino film I hate! Easily a 9 out of 10. Unfortunately I didn't see it in 70mm but that will soon be rectified...

I had no idea that The Hateful Eight is the first film to use the 70mm format since 1966! There are only a handful of films that have used it too, one being Ben Hur. So glad I saw it in that format, what an experience.

Spy.

Scrolling through the rentals with romcom loving partner, unable to decide. I wanted The Man From UNCLE, she wanted some soppy romp with 'She's' in the title. We agreed on this. Highly entertaining. I checked out its Wikipedia page and it had a 65m budget, received favourable reviews and was a box office hit. For those as disconnected from cinema as I these days, Spy is an action comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne. Big budget action, crass comedy, strong performances from all the leads. Great fun.

Ennio Morricone. It should be law that he write the score to any Western.

My fucking iphone's spelling made me spell Ennio as Ennui!!! ENNIO Morriconne is one of the great composers. His original score (and score from The Thing used in Hateful Eight) is damn near perfect!

This. I had chills up my spine whenever his music came on in Django Unchained.

"Un Monumento" is my favourite piece in Django Unchained. Do you have a favourite all time piece? I think mine might be from the album Molto Mondo Morricone, titled "Matto, Caldo, Soldi,Morto...Girotando (Reprise)" but I pretty much have everything he's done. I love "The Strong" from The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. And I totally love a few pieces from the album, Gui' La Testa. But no matter what album, you can generally find the most heavenly pieces written in modern times. The man is a genius.

Sorry to be all Deef about correcting you, Vince. I thought that you might have thought his name was actually Ennui.

haha, can't say I'm as big a fan as yourself, as I don't even know the names of the pieces!
I just love though, that he always captures the essence of a Western. His music just makes the film more authentic.

Anyone seen Revenant? hurry up and post review

rotten tomatoes says Revenant is superior to Hateful 8:

Will probably see both since it's tight arse ticket price day.
Based on a true story of survival. (no zombies in it thank god)
I just want to see the gore. Videogames are not doing it for me anymore. I got to have my fix.
Why is there no Lobo film yet? Look how many super heroes movies are flooding the market. Most of them are from kiddy comics to sell merchandise and action figures.

I don't know, l loved Raid 2. Better fight scenes, particularly the kitchen one near the end. The first Raid was awesome but was barebones story wise. There were some flat parts in Raid 2 but I liked the character progression of Rama. I'm just hoping there isn't too long a wait for Raid 3.

Saw Revenant:

Much better than I had expected. It is a movie about getting revenge but not just getting revenge, you have to survive all the encounters that can kill you on the way to getting the revenge and this includes shit weather, wild animals, dudes who want your scalp, and lack of resources. (like pitfall/indiana jones there is so much danger and obstacles in the way) As the economy collapses these kinds of things are going to happen to many people because of tough times. It's quite a brutal movie similar to gangs of new york (also starring Leonardo Dicaprio). The bad men of either side (natives and whites) can't be trusted, your own people can't be trusted. It's just you and the ones you know. If you liked movies like The Road, Mad Max etc this is kind of like that in snow, and natives in place of anarchist gangs.

The bear rape scene almost made me want to close my eyes. No it's not a rape scene but we all know the way it humps him as he lies with his back towards it makes it look like that. The CG was amazing. Why isn't that tech used in porno "choose your own adventure" type games?
3 out of 4

Hateful 8:

yes it's like The Thing only not as scary. It's time Tarantino actually did a 80s horror sci-fi flick though with different races of aliens conspiring to kill, steal, con each other out of paranoia. And the aliens all have unique motives and like the races in lord of the rings are racists with grudges that cause them to hate each others guts.(but they have to work together because they all have useless ability by themselves and must depend on each other to survive)

3 out of 4
Enjoyed this movie, but I wish Samuel L Jackson had an afro and guns hidden in his hair. He was originally supposed to have one in pulp fiction. This was a wasted opportunity imo.

Yeah I really enjoyed it. Both funnier and more violent than I was expecting.

The cinema was packed and people were constantly laughing along and enjoying themselves

McFarlane has just finished the script for another Spawn movie. Hopefully with the success that Deadpool has had, we will see another R rated super hero movie.
