Wasnt too bad, predictable and, even the $0.25 coin won in a bet I knew would come in handy later. Some really good nods to the 80s and sounds fucken epic on a home theatre. That level 99 magic shield and the big smart bomb at the end, I'm sure the neighbours in the next block heard the bass.
I much preferred the book, but I did enjoy the movie too

Its one of my best atmos movies I have to show off my setup. The opening scene really blows me away.

I still don't have my ceiling speakers set up. Have some nice Earthquakes to go up there but haven't the balls to tell the missus I'm putting holes in the ceiling.

Guns Akimbo, loved it. Wasn't too sure what to expect going in with Harry Potter but yeah was enjoyable ride from start to finish.

The Hobbit - Unexpected Journey

Never seen this before, but boy I liked it a lot. Picked it up for cheap from JB, $25 for the triology. When it ended it felt no where near 2hrs 40mins. Probably watch another early this week when the kids are back at school.

Ad Astra
I really liked it. It's the best bits of Interstellar and the 2002 Solaris remake.
It's no Arrival, but it's certainly one of the best "hard" sci-fi films I've ever seen.

Quit while you're ahead and still have good memories of that first film. The trilogy starts OK but quickly goes downhill.

I finally got around to watching John Wick 2 and 3 over the last week.
When I looked back through the thread, I noticed I'd never posted anything about the first one.

John Wick
A modern classic. I was amazed when I watched it, and couldn't believe anyone is still capable of making a great revenge fantasy film in 2014.
Theon Greyjoy was excellent as the villain.
8/10

John Wick 2
A slight let down after 1, but still very solid.
A bit slow in the first 45 minutes or so.
7/10

John Wick 3
Oh dear. What a mess and all over the place.
None of the coherence and clean objective of 1 and 2.
Really stupid in places, and inconsistent character behavior.
This film is a parody of itself.
Disappointing.

John Wick 1 took me by surprise. One of my favourite ever action movies. Everything is perfect - casting, photography, stunts, fight choreography.

John Wick 2 let me down harder than you by the looks. I found it silly in places. I'm having trouble remembering it to be honest. I remember every scene from 1.

Have yet to allocate the time for 3.

I saw John Wick 3 first at the cinema and never watched the others, until I bought them all on 4K UHD. Most people do prefer the first as the best.

3rd is great. Be good if you could see it.

Just watched the remastered bluray of Hype!! The Doco from 1996 on the Seattle music scene boom. Still fucken great and so many awesome bands that never got that success. And most of those artists are still performing today. Has bonus interviews 20 years later looking back at what happened.

Sort of erie that the original movie finished with Kurt's death and the 20 year bonus is right after Chris's death...

Aquaman

Oh dear. I was expecting better after gleaning lots of positive reviews and press. Jason Mamoa looks amazing. I wish my partner watched it with me 'cos I would've had some that night if she did. Amber Heard on the other hand is one of the worst protaganists I can remember. Terrible. Nicole Kidman and Temeura Morrison also cheesy AF. The dude who played Manta is great. I watched an octopus play the bongos. This movie is literally a big budget Saturday morning kids' superhero cartoon. I would not have been surprised to see the Wonder Twins rock up.

Arrival

It turns out my copy of this is missing the alien subtitles, so I was pretty amazed to see them.

I think I liked the film better without them, though.

I see it got pushed to 5th of March 2021. There's going to be a glut of big movies now all getting pushed and then coming at once.. it's a bit of a sad time at the moment but then we are going to be spoilt for choice. I see the cinemas are playing lots of old movies to have something to show on reopening, my local was even playing the original Mary Poppins for school holidays along with some 2019 animations they've sourced that don't look like they had a cinema release here originally.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

I wanted to hate it, but honestly, seeing The Rock juxtaposed like that is hilarious.

unfnknblvbl wrote:I thought that bit was great. I fucking hated that character in T2. I did LOL hard when Arnie deadpanned "I am reliable, a very good listener, and I am extremely funny".

Dark Fate wasn't terrible, just not spectacular. It probably won't age well, but it could be seen as Arnie's last hurrah, and it was pretty good at that.
I'd give it an 8/10, but then I enjoyed Genisys in the cinema, sooooo
This. I watched it last night and I legit laughed out loud at that line you quoted Arnie saying. Had to stop the movie just after they were teaching Dani to shoot guns but what I saw I liked. They also did a fantastic job with the CGI of Arnie, Sarah and John in the opening scene.

Will give my review score after I've finished it.

Finished Terminator Dark Fate. I loved it. Fantastic action pieces and it got straight into the action pretty quickly. Liked the augmented additions to Grace, story wasn't too bad at all and as much as I enjoyed T3 and liked the first half of Genisys, you could bin those and show someone T1, T2 and Dark Fate and they'd be none the wiser.

The only issue I had, and I still can't get.my head around is how John Conner can get wasted in the opening scene and it not affect..... Oh hang on, because Cyberdyne Systems and the T800 tech was destroyed there was no Skynet. It just came to me. Ok, yeah, loved the film, good Arnie flick. Not his best, but you can't expect too much at his age now.

Bill and Ted Face the Music

If studios were serious about stopping piracy, they wouldn't release it in some markets for streaming-only before other markets get it as a cinema-only experience.
Either stream everywhere, or do the cinemas first.

Idiots.

Anyway, it's fun enough, but not a patch on the original. I suspect it would have been a lot more fun in the cinema with a friend or two.

It was ok, though thought the ending was a bit lacking. Felt rushed or unfinished. How the song came about was completely hands in the air in the writers room.

Bogus journey has a much better wrap up in the credits too. No effort was made in this one. Random people dancing. They needed something like what bogus journey had to make it feel like a proper ending.

Sonic the Hedgehog
Finally got around to watching it.
And it's good! :D
There were quite a few horrible parts, but it more than made up for it with the good stuff.
All the stuff where Sonic is using his powers were the absolute highlight.
Carrey did a good job as Eggman.
Lots of Sega and Sonic nostalgia nods also.
So close to being a great movie.

Peter Rabbit (2018 movie).

Have no idea why this movie got mixed reviews. It’s great. Good comedy, good effects, slick production. It had us and the kids in stitches.

Recommended the next time you’re looking for something to entertain a broad audience.

9/10.
