Okay... last time I am going to mention TWD, honest!
I just wish there was a way I could make everyone read it. I really do. It is one of the best comic series I have ever read. Robert Kirkman is such a skilled writer, and he has partnered with such a great artist for the series. Charlie Adler just captures the face so well.
Kirkman has gone onto my favourite writers list.
Garth Ennis, Brian Michael Bendis, Terry Moore, and Robert Kirkman. These are the best comic writers ever. They continually produce some of the most amazing comics. Hopefully they have all won an Eisner for their contribution to the comic world.
Alan Moore... I love so much of his work... but there is something there that won't allow me to put him in that list. Watchmen, still the greatest thing ever written. But still I won't put him into my favourite writers list.

And Brian K Vaughn. And Geoff Johns. And Jeph Loeb. Moore was king in the 80's, you only have to read his Swamp Thing and Green Lantern material to realise it. It was because of a Moore GL back up story we now how the Blackest Night storyline.
ANATHEMATIC ILLIMITED, TRANSFATAL EXPRESS, VIRAL INCORPORATED, INTERNATIONAL EPIDEMICS & MENSTRUAL MOTORCYCLES.

I had a massive break on comics between 1994 and 2002...
So I'm doing a lot of back and forth and catching up and wotnot.
The guys I have listed are the guys who have really stood out for me since I picked comics back up again.
Anyhoo... Ultimate Comics The Armour Wars starts this week. Did Orson Scott Card finish his Ultimate Iron Man story?

read the second TWD trade Grey I am still digging it, I really should have shelled out on the first big omnibus but well I am a dickhead.
I finished the 3 trades of the Death of Captain America today, I dug it!!! Alex Ross designed Cap costume rocked and they kept the big fella out of the comics (Although story is old now so he might be back I dunno I only read trades).
Read trades 3 and 4 of The Boys aswell, that keeps getting sicker and funnier.

Hey, I am taking a couple of workshops at my school ( I am a teacher) on comics. The class I am visiting is gonna be studying Macbeth using these new comics rather than the old script so the teacher wants a couple of comics familiarisation lessons.
I am concentrating really on how comics are different to other forms of literature so I have a lesson on the Art and a lesson on Onomatopoeia (words like BUZZ and SKRAZZ!).
Anyone think of some good examples I could use for these two points? Keep in mind these are year 10 boys.

Ultimate Spider-Man by Bendis is awesome. It deals with teenage issues in realistic conversational format.
You might want to show people some of Eisner's work. The Spirit is just amazing. The guy was writing and drawing well before his time. It makes most of the stuff from the 60's look like child's play.
What about Stranger's In Paradise by Terry Moore? It's drama, well written and the artstyle is in an almost comic strip fashion. So you have pretty detailed characters set to something cartoonish. It's like Archie but taken seriously.
I know this might be a little too over the top... but The Sword by The Lunar Brothers is a great example of Art in story telling. The action is almost cinematic. You get a such a sensation of movement in the art.
Or how about Guy Gardner Issue 3? It tells a story and only has one word of text in it. It doesnt even have sound effects in the comic. Just one line of text yet it is a really cool issue.
Marvel is usually big on the Onomatopoeia, thwipp. I'd hit up their comics for some great examples.

I am loving Millar and Bendis back writing the new Ultimate Comics. Spider-Man and Avengers rock. Pity Loeb is writing a New Ultimates series... which I have no idea how as they have started up Project Avengers... and looking at the cover of Ultimates it has half of the Avengers... <sigh> Loeb pisses me off.
Anyway... I read the first issue of The A-Team, which is a tie in for the new movie. Art looks shmick, really captures the look of the actors. Action is okay, obviously they are no longer just shooting wildly, and all the bad guys survive. Good to see B.A. is still afraid to fly. Loving it.
I am so lazy, I still haven't gone and picked up Kick-Ass issue 8. I am guessing they removed it from my bag and sold it to someone else lol.

Yep... Just read issue 1 of Ultimate Comics New Ultimates, and it makes little to no fucking sense, and basically goes against the comic Millar had already written, Ultimate Avengers.
WTF is Loeb doing?? God, he fucked The Ultimates... heck you buy The Ultimates Omnibus and it only collects series 1 and 2. Why doesn't Loeb just leave the Ultimates universe to it's creators, Millar and Bendis. Let them write years of awesome, and then let Loeb come in the end and fuck it all up again so there is another reboot.
I think Loeb is a decent writer, he just seems to want to poop all over the Ultimates... grrr...

Finally read Kick-Ass #8. So OTT it isn't funny. Nice ending... also great epilogue. I am guessing the Epilogue isn't in the film, but it would be awesome if it was.
Very enjoyable OTT series. Wish it hadn't been put on pause for the film though. Come on Millar, I thought you could do 50 comic series at once!

Andrew Lincoln to play Rock Grimes.
