GET EXCITED - World Cup 2018, now with even more corruption!
23 year old Jermaine Pennant has completed a 6.7 million pound transfer to Liverpool from relegated team Birmingham. The figure rises to above 7 million based on appearances.
He's a good player.. but it just goes to show how much of a bargain Newcastle got when they signed Damien Duff..though Pennant is only 23. Overall it's a good signing for Liverpool. Pennant is good at beating his man and whipping in crosses. Apparently he put in the most crosses in the Premier League last season. With the tall timber of Crouch in the centre, that's a dangerous recipe for opposing sides. Liverpool are putting together an excellent squad capable of threaterning Chelsea.
Liverpool are also thought to have reopened negotiations with Feyenoord regarding forward Dirk Kuyt.

I read about us chasing Pennant on a Liverpool forum, this has the makings of a good long-term move. Gives us a bit more youth, and his crosses and Crouchy's robot danc- er sorry his height gives us another weapon to use against the Russian Mafia All-Stars.
But yeah, you did get a bargain with Duff, BigK. You are expecting Europe qualification this year, aren't you? but which comp?

I'll be happy with straight qualification for the UEFA Cup with our current squad. If we add a proven striker, and a quality left fullback then I think we could push for a top four spot. Anything is possible, but overall I'd be happy with a top 6 finish, and some memorable matches.
The thing is, we'll only build from here to get better, Owen next season will hopefully be available full time, as will Dyer, and the young guys N'Zogbia, Taylor and Bramble will only be better for their experience. So it's not a building year as such, but they'll be looking towards an even more successful couple of seasons in the years to come. Success brings players.. just look at Chelsea.. even with Abrahimovic's zillions they couldn't sign whoever they wanted off the bat.. fast forward three years with two premiership titles, and some good showings in Europe, and all the big name players are coming. Not saying that the same thing is possible for Newcastle, but if they grab fourth spot then all of a sudden their European profile and their budget increases.

Yeah you need that 4th UCL spot, there is 50 Million Euros right there. Look what UCL has done for Liverpool... new stadium on the way, paid for BY US AND NOT A SPONSOR (yes I am looking at you Arsenal), more money for players...

Yeah that spot will be hotly contested. Between Newcastle, Tottenham, and the "top four" side that struggles the most. Everton could suprise and poe their head up there again also. And Blackburn could be a danger again, although the loss of Belmay will be tough.. though they have replaced him with a similar player in McCarthy.
Sounds like a plan Tex. Where do you recommend to run it?
I've never actually been in a premier league tipping comp, so it will be interesting.
Oh, and btw Ruud Van Nistelrooj is very close to securing a transfer to Real Madrid.
Also, the changes I made to the Newcastle United Wikipedia page look to be still up

OzTips, where the boys have their NFL etc comps. I'll hook one up and get back to everyone with the details. I would be keen to do both.
Ruud to Real? Faark. They almost have a decent team now, but they still won't win shit-all.

The scoring works just like the EPL - 3 points for picking a win, 1 point for picking a draw. Non-submission of tips will get you the lowest score for that round.
Roll up! Roll up! For those new to football this style of straight tipping comp will be easier than a fantasy league comp.

Back to the fotball news...
It seems that some English Boffins have worked out the most sucessful team in the history of top flight football. This also shows that Chel$ki have no history, and have only used ca$h to win championships, as we Liverpool supporters have been saying all along.

Lol.. yeah that's the info I added to the Newcastle United Wikipedia.. Newcastle being the eighth most successfull football club in English League History. Also added that they were in the news most recently as a result of the signing of Damien Duff... and I also added Albert Luque to the notable players list!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle_United_F.C" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Pretty indepth it is..
I changed the topic to include the tipping comp, and added the details in the first post.

Being in both is where it's at.. you can follow the form of clubs in the tipping comp, and use that knowledge to better your fantasy team.
A neat addition to the fantasy comp this year allows you to play a trade wild card in one week of the competition. This will allow you to make as many trades in that week as you like without suffering a points penalty (normally your first trade is free each week, subsequent trades cost you 4 points off your total score).
I'm planning on writing an in=depth analysis of all of the teams before the season kicks off.. if I get around to it, I'll stick in in here.

Thats a great link Texas.
My mate and I are always arguing over who is the greatest EPL team.
I a Liverpool supporter and he a Man Utd supporter.
He likes to atrribute Man Utd's FA Cup wins(which I call the FUCK ALL CUP) as a major factor to why they are the greatest EPL league team.
I on the other hand like to focus on the most FA and European Cups/Championships that both teams have won!
The link you have provided will give more ammo for me on why I think Liverpool deserves to be placed higher than Man Utd as the greatest EPL team of all time!

Muzza, you are a bright and learned man, I am sure! There cn be no doubt that Liverpool is the greatest team in English FA history. And the best thing is that the table is calculated from First Division/Premiership results ONLY, so by the time you add in our 5x UCL wins, etc, Man U can Fark right off!
Walk on, WAAALLLLKKKK OOOONNNNNN........

Yeah but Newcastle United still get more supporters at their home games!
.. Clutching at Straws!!!
I still maintain that it's more rewarding to support a smaller club!
I'm about to buy a whole load of Newcastle United gear from the nufc.co.uk shop. Sucks that the conversion rate is so crummy. All the gear I want will cost me like $400+.
Sooo expensive to buy soccer gear over here anyway! That $400 includes both the home and away strip (which over here from a shop would set you back more than $250 alone!).
$400 is too much to spend on soccer gear though.. I think I'll spend about $200 instead.. including a personalised NUFC mug
