Well I went out for a look at some of the new movie toys, picked up Rampage for about $18 (he's the bulldozer) and it's pretty damn cool, he has like an almost crab-like robot mode, very much reminds me of bonecrusher or whatever his name was from the first movie.

I've decided to exercise a bit of restraint this time. I'll only get a few that I really like (which isn't too hard actually) and it totals about 3 or so. I'm curious to have a look at the Jetfire toy... apparently the jet mode is quite huge, but suffers a bit from kibble.. ie. cool looking jet, squished up robot underneath. Still it looks neat and if I see if for cheap enough will probably get it. (anyone know if he is out here? only seen Optimus/Megatron leader so far)

Tempted to get the new leader Optimus Prime too, as they've made a number of design changes.. but considering I have the first movie version as well I might wait it out until the inevitable repaints come out so as to have something different.

Jetfire and Optimus combined would be pretty kick arse :D

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is easily now, for me, the worst film ever made. Ever. Appalling. I thought it might have been just me but http://au.rottentomatoes.com/m/transfor ... he_fallen/ confirms it all.

Quote:
disaster of epic proportions, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” represents a new low in director Michael Bay’s descent into self-parody. It’s more of what we’ve come to expect from Bay: more explosions than people, endlessly bombastic music, and a plot that’s simultaneously exceedingly complex and confoundingly boring.

Quote:
It’s as if Bay decided that, after the first film, no more plot was needed. And maybe the target audience won’t mind that, but for anyone else the lack of an intelligible plot and interesting characters quickly becomes boring.

Quote:
Michael Bay has a new movie out, and it’s a crowning achievement--the first English-language film that needs subtitles in order to understand it. It’s called “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” and it’s a shoo-in for the Razzies--Worst Foreign Language Movie in a Non Foreign Language. The film is a masterwork of banality, a champion of stupidity, one of the most over-sold wrecks of the year

Quote:
If when you were a child you had passed a magnet over a pile of iron filings, you would have unknowingly created the action scenes of Michael Bay’s latest blockbuster, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

I still haven't seen it yet. Almost did though.
To those who already did: Are the fighting scenes harder to follow than the first movie?
Which movie is worse between this and wolverine movie?

Just do what me and general chaos did and just buy G1 masterpiece starscream. (unless you already had it imported)

If I had to buy one: I'd wait for the leader class f22 starscream that I heard was coming. Skip the voyager.

Whoever the silver guy is with the blades? That'd probably be who I'd get. I saw his transformation and it looks pretty cool. Bot mode and alt mode look equally good.

Yep G1 MP starcream.. looks just like an F15 and just like his robot mode in the cartoon. Apparently this isn't possible though. Ask Michael Fucking Bay.

Yeah I've got the first Masterpiece Starscream already, picked him up in Japan :) Grimlock is on my next to buy list from the Masterpiece collection..

Well I've still only bought Rampage, still quite impressed with the figure, the crab-like aspect is damn cool. Considering I already managed to break part of the spring inside his legs (it's used for the jackhammer mode), I think he might be the first transformer I actually modify a bit.

I think I managed the fix the spring mostly anyhow (not that I'd ever use the jackhammer mode lol, but it gives you a bit more stability), but there are a couple of easy things you can do, like make both his legs move independently, rather than be tied together, and I want to do a little cutting on his arms to give him elbows, cause as it stands his arms only have limited movement.

Still haven't come across any others that have interested me enough to buy them. Optimus does look cool, but I think I can wait for the repaints. I am keen to have a look at Jetfire still.

Watched this on monday on imax and absolutey loved it!
If you go in thinking you want anything more than just non stop action then this film isn't for you. I stayed glued to the screen and loved every minute of it! I look forward to having this flick as a refrence disk to show off my bluray setup.

I've decided to see this tommorow.

Really only just barely wanting to though.

I agree pariah, all that money could have been spent giving us an Akira-esqe level of masterpiece anime of a TF movie for the grown up kids who demand to have the characters stay like they remembered them. (just like how the ninja turtles or astro boy got a reboot all those years ago with success)

Japanese animated.
American writers.
American voices.

Then when it goes to theatres in japan they could probably make more money there since they seem to like the american TF cartoons more anyway. (they could at least recognises which robots are which because of the more distinct colours)

GameHED, I hated Wolverine, but I would recommend that over Raping Of The Fans.

Moving away from it being a Transformers movie, it is just one of the most offensive things I have ever seen. The "humour", the tone... it was so disgusting. The only ounce of good you can find in this film is on the technical level.

Yes the first film has some purile moments in it, but overall the story wasn't horrible, and you could feel for the autobots. It was like a poor man's Transformers, but you didn't mind if someone saw it in your movie collection. There is no way I will be buying the second film, no matter how sexy the CG is. It would be like buying porn. You own it but you don't put it on display for everyone to see.

Do yourself a favour and just avoid it altogether. If you feel the need to see it, then just download it. Michael Bay doesn't deserve money for this. Nobody does. If I worked on this film, I would feel ashamed to have my name in the credits.

It's just a terrible dispicable thing. I actually loathe it.

Ok grey, after having realised how much this movie is making I've decided to hold back on seeing it.

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/opinio ... pology.php

I've already seen t4 so if this is worse than that it would be helping to reward hollywood to keep up the raping. I think they should actually pay people to see it since its an ad for toys.

Latest purchase TF Anaimted Prowl with sidecar armour. Very happy to finally get my hands on this since I refused to get the original knowing this was coming.

Looks extemely cool in both modes. Spotted: target brookside.

BTW Be prepared for target toy sale. Might find some discounted stuff there. Collectors hold on a little bit longer.

I guess this is the official Transformers thread.

New cartoon series coming out in October - Transformers: Prime.

Stars Peter Cullen as Optimus, Charles Adler as Starscream (he was starscream in the movie), Jeffrey "Herbert West"Combs as Ratchet, and Frank Welker is on board too.

I loved TFA but I do wish the show much luck. I also hope that it is as respectful of G1 as TFA and BeastWars was before it.

Okay, so it is going to be CG, and the characters are going to be a cross between the movie characters and the TFA characters.

Not sure if people have noticed this, but Madman have done a Bluray release of Transformers The Animated Movie.

https://www.madman.com.au/actions/catal ... seId=12222

I'm tempted... although this would make it my 3rd purchase of the movie.

It's the 2 Disc Anniversary release they did a few years back. Also, it only has the widescreen cut and not both cuts like it says in the description.

Reviews seem to say the picture quality of this release is pretty good. Probably as good as you are going to get. Not eye popping fantastic, but an improvement on the DVD release, which I thought looked pretty amazing for such an old film.

recently popped by the local Toys R Us and spotted masterpiece grimlock. $150 though.

Looks like an upsized g1 toy mostly.

Also picked myself up this guy:

http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-new ... ew-169777/
Image
^great place for storing the weapon.
Image
^these two knives can be stored in hips too. This is what masterpiece starscream needed. :P

Image
^there can only be one.
Image
^no autobot or decepticon logo. Probably working with starscream to kill megatron whilst making money leaking secrets to autobots.

it's as good as the pictures show. Dude with 2 short swords, and a big long sword and no guns stands out in the TF universe. I don't know who the character is but I imagine he is some kind of silent assasin ninja type guy with the ability of a jedi to be able defelct shots with the melee weapons or soething. Who cares it looks bloody cool in both alt mode (weapons concealed and stored very nicely) and bot mode. This and war for cybertron prime are my two fave figures. I don;t know if I will get war for cybertron BB though..

Also for those who missed out on them the first time: you can now get human alliance bumblebee for $35 at kmart. It seems to be reboxed into smaller space. I've always been pissed that I could not get this guy and am happy to be able to buy it at discount price now. Reminds me so much of alternators with the ability to open the doors and see the interior. Plus the battle mask gimmick sets this apart from the smaller deluxe figures which pretty much become redundant after you own this. I just wish hasbro had the idea to always release these in smaller boxes from the start.

Despite what you may think of the bayformers, some of the characters like bumblebee actually turned out ok while others (such as starscream) not so well as robots. I think for the third movie they should really let the unpopular looking guys die off somehow and introduce new ones. We didn't get to know them, (thanks to humans taking up the movie) so it's not like little kids are going to cry or anything.

Look way too plastic though. Bring back the old school way of Transformers!

I agree. But it's a small price to pay imo for all the improvements of todays toys.

You can't tell me the g1 grimlock is superior to masterpiece grimlock or that g1 starscream is superior to masterpiece starscream.

And masterpiece rodimus prime is coming. This reawakening of g1 style represents a great time for the 'vintage collectors' who ordinarily would have to look for the old stuff on ebay and pay disgusting amounts of money for barely posable paintchipped bricks which look aweful in a display because of the limits of the figures back then.

It seems to me the figures just keep getting better in terms of complexity than previous toys. Looking at leaderclass starscream the other day, although I'm not a huge fan of the bay robot designs; I can appreciate the detailing in them. revenge of the fallen figures for instance look a lot better than the first movie toys because the makers of them finally have the completed designs so the sculpt accuracy is getting much better. Compare this to back in the 80s when G1 toys looked nothing like what the characters did in the cartoon. (jetfire/skyfire is a classic example here :P)

Big difference between Masterpiece and the plastic 'quick-snap' shit of the general toy lines. I'll gladly pay top dollar for the MP series, but when a little itty bitty plastic dwarf transformer is selling for $49.95 they can go get fucked.

Well to me what matters is mostly the sculpt. An example is the cheap plastic macross frontier vf-25 bandai kits vs the toys which are heavier and more solid but look like crap in terms of how they look next to the actual cg seen in the tv series. (all chunky and out of shape instead of slim and sleek)

Transformer Alternators were plastic and despite being cheaper materials if you put a diecast binaltech near the alternator it is very hard to tell the difference just by looking at it. Plus there is the whole paintchipping issue I brought up where if two parts rub togehter a lot during a transformation, the diecast bits are at risk of having the paint chip whereas the plastic version which is molded in the colour doesn't have this problem. We could go on for days arguing about the merits of one over the other but to me if the sculpt is good, the engineering is good, and the posability is good, then it results in a good toy. You are right about the mass produced mainline toys are not to the standard of the MP, but to some people owning a whole collection of different figures appeals to them more than owning a few really high grade quality ones, so it's a cost issue. (think back to when you were a kid and wanted to get all the star wars or gi joes but had to choose because of limited $)
