Massive swing to the Coalition in the Gippsland by-election.
Looks like people are fed up with Labor already, no doubt from all the election promises of cutting the cost of living and miserably failing.

Here's some damage control.
This is the first time the libs have contested this seat in 20 years. They've effectively widened their catchment base to get some of the more centrist conservatives and have redirected preferences to the nats.
The nats lost just as much primary vote as Labor in the byelection.
I don't see how anyone can hope to keep the cost of living down after the train wreck the coalition left.

I don't really see how this can be spun against Rudd at all. Labor is in government whether they won this by-election or not, so the electorate wasn't voting for a PM, they were voting for a local member.
BTW, Joe Hockey got up in parliament the other day and said that out of the first 550 questions that Labor has answerered in this term of government, they blamed Howard in 422. The Libs only blamed Labor in 284 of their first 550 questions in 1996. Talk about clutching at straws!

For me the Labour honeymoon was over in early March:

Since then the Boncos have been referred to as the Ruddcos amongst my friends. The Brisbane Ruddcos has a good ring to it....BRISBANE Broncos today signed up the most powerful player in the country.
And the prized recruitment of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as the rugby league club's first patron did not even tip it over the NRL salary cap.
...
"Some people down in Canberra would say 'why are you backing a Queensland team?'," he said.
"Well, you can take the boy out of Queensland, but you can never take Queensland out of the boy.
"That's why I'm very proud to be backing the Broncos."

What, unlike your damage control, where seven months after the fact, you still refuse to believe that Australians wanted to get rid of Howard, and so chose the only other option?westical wrote:Pretty weak damage control.unfnknblvbl wrote:...meanwhile, in what was a three-party race, the Liberals finished in third place.

meanwhile the rest of us are enjoying having a prime minister we're not ashamed of
It's good to see the Liberal party make some headway though. Nelson, Turnbill and others are true Liberals - economically conservative, socially progressive. Unlike wretched Howard and other zealots from the religious right of the Liberal Party eg: Tony Abbott.

I'm struggling to see how he isn't already a major embarrassment.mech wrote:I don't know if there's much to be proud of with Rudd, he's a bit of a twat.
He's the flimsiest, weakest cocksucker I've seen since Bracks...but with more power.
I hope America dumps us and Asia attacks us to teach us a lesson.

Its equivilant of a coach who takes over a team and goes 2-14 for the season... bbubububububu it was the previous Coach's team...... Please, The new guy has the power to change things but it eventually shine through that the idiot couldnt coach.... Just like Rudd, can't even suck a dick properly let alone stop the country going to shit....
we'll see next election how brilliant KRudd has done..... anyone willing to put down $100 right now that he'll still be in power in 4 years time?
