My eyes are open but as you see with Trump and Brexit the will of the people vs the elites is a long battle to undo the damage especially with half the population eager to destroy their own countries.Twiztid Elf wrote:Open your eyes Froggy (as a fellow right leaning). Damn. I need to stop drinking to dangerous levels, probably quit my job, and stop watching crazy shit on YouTube. (Although the TISM stuff is wicked).
I'll be around to watch and comment on the E3 dumpster fire, then I'll be taking a break off the internet for a few weeks.

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
Well the Libs were all but wiped out in WA, one of the most conservative states in the country. For several reasons. 1) Former leader Liza Harvey (who just lost her seat) wanted to open the borders during Victoria's second wave. Regardless of where you stand on borders now, that was monumentally stupid. She was then rolled as leader by Zac Kirkup in November. Who just lost his seat, the first Opposition leader to ever lose his seat in WA, and the first party leader in almost 90 years. What did Zac do in his ~4 months in charge? Conceded defeat two weeks before the election He also alienated a lot of his "base" by announcing an energy policy copy and pasted from the Greens. He just lost Collie for a generation. He also had to deal with candidates who blamed 5g for covid, and another one who believes you can cure the gays. GameHED was booted out and ran as an independent, and had her arse handed to her, not sure about the conversation therapy whacko, but I'm betting they were flogged too.
The Feds also backed Clive Palmer I have no idea what impact the current scandals surrounding WA MPs Linda Reynolds and Christian Porter had, but it wouldn't have helped.
Net result?
Labor: 50 (52 predicted)
Nationals:3 (4 predicted)
Liberals: 2 (3 predicted)
The Libs have lost official party status, and ceded official Opposition to the Nationals, making Mia Davies Opposition Leader. This has never occurred in WA history before.
The Libs have one Perth metro seat (Cottesloe), the Nationals zero.
Labor is also on-track to gain control of the Upper House, a scenario long thought impossible because #conservatives:
Labor: 22
Liberals: 6
Nationals: 4
Legalise Cannabis WA: 2
Shooters, Fishers, Farmers: 1
Greens: 1
I suspect electoral reform will now be on the cards.

Current predictions there are:When Western Australians vote for a new Legislative Council (upper house), the regional structure of the chamber means that 10% of the state's population will elect 33% of the MLCs.
The WA Legislative Council is the last state chamber to retain a significant 'malapportionment', where the votes of electors in different parts of the state carry different weights.
Voters in Mining and Pastoral Region carry six times the weight of voters in Perth, while voters in Agricultural Region have four times the power of voters in Perth.

Today's Newspoll has Labor equal on primary and ahead on two-party for the first time in a while.

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
Final results are even worse for the Libs:
Labor: 53
Libs: 2
Nationals: 4
Holy fucking shit. Gina Rinehart now lives in a Labor seat The Libs retain the seats of Cottesloe in Perth and Vasse (the Busselton/Margaret River region down south), so literally the two richest places in WA.
Slight change to the predicted upper house too. Antony Green doesn't think Legalise Cannabis or Daylight Saving will get up, and it'll be another seat to Labor, and one to the Nationals. But the current prediction is:
Labor: 23
Liberals: 7
Nationals: 3
Legalise Cannabis WA: 1
Daylight Saving: 1
Greens: 1
Unprecedented.

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
that is a frankly astonishing result, but as a lefty, even I think it's a bit concerning. It'd be nice if they didn't let it go to their heads, but of course they will...

So, the federal budget is today.
Deficit apparently cut in half.
Unemployment down.
Economy chugging along with 2% growth.
Investment in home grown skill growth.
I guess it would be bad of me at this time to point out the coincidence of ZERO immigration for the last 14 months right?
The media certainly won't be pointing that out.

I prefer the "lockdowns will kill the economy" narrative. Will that be trotted out? No?Twiztid Elf wrote: ↑11 May 2021 08:55 am So, the federal budget is today.

Dunno.
Aside from Melbourne, nowhere has really been "locked down" for any significant period of time right?

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
Just like the "imagine the death rate if we didn't have masks / lockdowns" argument, I'm sure the "just imagine the unemployment / economy if we continued with immigration through this" could be applied? There's no data to back up either claim, but let's not keep that from telling a story.
I guess whoever has a mainstream presence and voice gets to pick and choose the narrative we all get to hear.

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
There’s been a lot of deficit stimulus spending to keep the economy ticking along though. Actual Commonwealth debt today is around 4.5 times higher than when Abbott campaigned on Labor’s ‘debt and deficit disaster’Twiztid Elf wrote:So, the federal budget is today.

Youtubing about ongoing legal proceedings isn't wise.

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
It's getting the BS of the situation out there though.
And if you watch some of his previous vids on this topic, Barilaro and his lawyers fed to the press that they were suing Jordan, along with specific details of what they were suing him for, over a week before the documents were even served. And Jordan only had the documents served to him because he literally rocked up to the law firm's office and forced them to "hand" them over.
The way the NSW gov controls the narrative here is fucked. Even more so than the feds.

After seeing how unhinged he became in his last video, it's not surprising that he's getting done. There's something off with that guy.

Re: Up the Mighty Liberals! #inmalcolmwetrust
What he's being sued for is pretty much at the same level as the sort of shit that Shaun Micallef does on Mad as Hell with the Mathias Cormann impersonation (with some salty insults), some Chaser style stunts and then some hardcore investigative journalism exposing the rampant corruption of John Barilaro.
But yeah, no problem with it because he is apparently unhinged...or passionate about holding the people in power to account.

PVO is a cat. Backpedals like a bitch on his thoughts about Grace Tame, then pushes anonymous, slanderous text messages on the PM and expects him to give them the time of day. What an absolute clown. Gutter journalism.
