I actually said something similar on Gaf along the lines of it wouldn't have sounded out of place on Kill em All with those old school production levels.

Speaking of which, the recently remastered versions of Kill em All & Lightning aren't worth the asking price imo. Lightning has a bit more volume but they're not a patch on the Megadeth remasters.

Mmm I got the remasters on disc (lol) for my birthday and was planning on playing them back to back with originals on a decent setup. So far only tried mp3 rips in my car with similar experience to yourself.

Megadeth Remastered def had a bigger impact.

We'll see how they do with Puppets but I ain't holding my breath. They better not fuck up Justice again if they're planning on remastering that.

I enjoyed Hardwired. I just hope the short solo isnt a trend on the new Album.

So, has Metallica just given up on decent lyrics?

Pretty much. The pinnacle of lyrics in their songs is Puppets, Justice had a few weak tracks and then pretty much a majority of their stuff since hasn't had the story telling from their Burton years.

Load/Reload had some great lyrics. Sure, they were more introspective than previous efforts, but they were really good.

This, and Death Magnetic, though... ergh.

Death Magnetic is awesome and anyone that disagrees with me should go back to listening to Nickleback. :D

Just had a listen to Moth into Flame, not too bad on the first listen. Song should've faded out though rather than end the way it did imo.

I didn't mind Moth Into Flame Into Darkness.
Didn't like the first song linked in here.
Haven't been able to listen to Metallica since S&M. I just wish James would stop trying to sing.

Anyone picked up the album yet? Had a brief listen so can't give a decent opinion but so far skipping through them all listening to the intros there does seem to be some nods to earlier albums. For example, "Here comes Revenge" instantly reminded me of Leper Messiah within the first two notes, you'll see.

Yeah have had a quick listen. Still trying to wrap my head around it but not as fast as I thought it would be.

Plenty of tempo changes
Guitar harmonies
Don't mind the vocals either

Definately its own album with unique sound which I am trying to place. Maybe a bit of garage inc about it. Definitely a lot of nods to the past in there.

Liking "confusion" at the moment.

Liked that as well. Have about 4 songs left I haven't heard yet as I only listen to music travelling to and from work. Heard the first 6 and the last song. Some quite long songs and it's going to take a few listens as it hasn't grabbed me like DM did but it still seems good so far although I couldn't help comparing it to Megadeths Dystopia which I think is awesome.

Metallica just wrapped up a live show in London which was streamed on YouTube. Surprisingly the audio was top notch. Played a few new songs but it wasn't an overly large set list.
