If Metallica where only after the dollar, then why would they piss off MTV? Metallica were supposed to play King Nothing at the 1996 MTV music awards but they where angry with MTV so they decided to piss MTV off, they played the two most offensive songs they could without rehearsal. They played two covers, So What! & Last Caress. James later confessed to trying to say all the offensive lyrics as clear as possible
.
see, im not buying that..... The MTV music awards are known for 'one bit' of controversy each year (Think the Anna Nicole Smith getting her tits out)... and this was that year's stunt.
If Metallica were truly pissed at the MTV gravy train (that they enjoy riding so much) they would've told producers to fuck off and not showed up...
but just as predictable as a bad music show awards show they showed up with their leather pants and hair with more product than Jason Preistley and belted out 2 offensive songs... Big deal.
remember around 96 was about the time where Metallica were at their lowest. What better way to get people talking about you again by doing something like this.

Load & ReLoad were great albums, you just can't admit it because it's Metallica, and it's not Kill 'em All. Their songwriting had improved by leaps and bounds since their early days, and that pair of albums was the natural progression of that.
.
I thort that was a good point. I dont get the attitude that metal artists can't change their style. Why can't they? Coz they said they wouldn't when they were 19 years old? YARGH METAL FOREVER! Yeah well people grow up and tour the world and get married and have kids and their outlook changes from one of getting blind in SanFrancisco every night and moshing til dawn. Bu bu ub bubu they shouldn't hav changed - Grow up everyone else did.
I love the country inspired tunes on Load and Reload, I think there are some great riffs on there too, I am heaps biased and I dont care, the band have been important to me for a long time and any new album will be a day 1 purchase for me.

Change is fine. Uriah Heep is a perfect example of a band that went soft and maintained respect. Let me put this into 4 simple words, Metallica IS sonic team.
I quite like Reload and I reckon Load is ok if you skip a few tracks, but hey there were good parts of Sonic Adventure werent there?
New video clip added on the mission MetallicA website.
The first 'Fly on the wall' video clip includes a new riff that kinda sounds like 'the new song' that MetallicA played live nearly a year ago. All the new music and riffs I have heard so far sound very MetallicAish, I am so excited about the new album.
shit song, sounds like a jam session gone wrong with cliched and corny riffs..... Hetfield's vocals are pitchy as shit as well.
drags on and doesn't go anywhere and has no structure (sounds like 4 different songs thrown together by some clown at a mixing desk - Hi Rick Rubin)...
Metallica have finally (if they hadnt already) tanked....
totally agree. The first 50 seconds aren't necessary. That main middle section is ok, had some poor lyrical content and isn't what metallica 'should' sound like, but overall ok. That extended 'this i swear' just before the heavier parts start is total fucking shit! The heavier parts that occupy the last 2 mins seem totally tacked on the rest of it like a half arsed '"oh yea, we're metallica arent we?". Those parts arent all that bad, but if thats the kind of sound and progression they are after, then they shouldve just been as wanky, epic and loud as they could have from the minute the song starts. Could probably have been a good song with a bit more arrangement and quality control, it does just drag on as you say. If 3 mins of it were cut out then it would be much more solid overall.
What i heard was evidence they could write some good music again, yet further confirmation they never will.

Complaining that the vocals are pitchy is kind of like complaining that the drum track is rhythmy, but otherwise I think you've made a fair and accurate assessment of the song at hand. It just sounds like an inoffensive but bland pastiche of past Metallica songs, which I imagine is like aural porn to the die-hard fans. It just makes me want to chuck on one of their good songs and forget this ever happened.
Fuck you all .
I'm loving these two tracks."the day that never comes" & "My Apocalypse".
The guitars remind me of the late 80"s,love the whole feel of the sound.

You mean like One, Fade to Black, Sanatarium? Fuck there are a bunch of moaning fuckers here. Its been 20's years since their thrash era and thats where most of you guys are stuck in.

that being said, the track St Anger was a better than this (not saying much I know but at least it went somewhere and just wasnt mindless music thrown together for the sake of exactly what Boomy said, 'yeah, we're Metallica and we can still do hard as fuck shit if we want to....' Yawn.......
this song is utter crap... dead, buried, out for the count, whatever you want to call it.... metallica are finished....

Go listen to Machine Head's cover of Battery. Seriously awesome.
After watching Some Kind of a Bullshit it is pretty clear they no longer have their heart or interest in music anymore. Probably time to just let it go and enjoy the money they have made.

yep... its nearly as bad as an episode of H&A or Neighbours..... seriously, the whole time you were just hoping that Lars and James would just punch the shit out of each other and get it over with....
But No, They do Therapy.....

I've never said I want Metallica from that Era. It will never happen...
I dont care if its heavy, slow, fast or whatever. A good song is a good song and this one is far from that...
I spose there will always be the Metallica ball lickers present who would take one of Lars' dumps on a plate and call it a work of art...
As is Cyanide. I first heard 'The Day Never Comes' and thought it was ok, but when I heard My Apocolypse I listened to it another 3x straight away and then heard Cyanide and di the same. Both awesome tracks. Fuck everything else from the Black album onwards.
